erm, Alt-H is the hangup key for me. always has been.

I quoted your message with ctrl-q.

I just dug through settings and I don't see anywhere to re-map keys, so I'm not sure how ctrl-q has become your key combo for hanging up.

...To err is human, but to really foul things up requires a computer.

Normally, it's Alt/Cmd-H to hangup in SyncTERM, but I do think there are some video/output modes that SyncTERM supports were Alt-key combinations aren't possible (?).

That said, Ctrl-Q is the XON character (used in software flow control) and really shouldn't be a command-key for anything BBS related (since some clients might send that character at any time without user intervention). Where are you finding Ctrl-Q is a command key for quoting a message?

For me, SyncTerm's hangup hotkey has always been Alt-H. I've never seen SyncTerm use Ctrl-Q for hangup..

What editor are you using? In SlyEdit, in addition to Ctrl-Q, you can also type /q on an empty line and press enter to open the quote window (and you can press ESC to close it when you're done selecting lines to quote).

i use curses video mode. there you have Ctrl-Q for disconnect
Editor is the Slyedit IceStyle. when i switch to X11 video mode in syncterm program settings i don't have Ctrl-Q collision anymore.
I had this issue forever and always used a second terminal beside syncterm because of that.

    Mindsurfer

PS: Here is the syncterm manual part about that:

"When you are connected to a system, there are a number of controls available that are not sent to the remote.

For Curses and ANSI modes, only two controls are avilable, and they are not available in other modes. This is because these two modes dont have access to keys that could not potentially be sent to the remote. To help avoid conflict with remote systems, the XON (Ctrl+Q) and XOFF (Ctrl+S) codes that are used for software flow control are used.

    Ctrl+Q
    Disconnects from the current session.

    Ctrl+S
Brings up the Online Menu (see below)"

Ctrl-Q (being the XON control character) was probably not a good choice for a command key in SlyEdit. At Nightfox said, there is an alternate command for quoting (/q) as well, so that's good.

SlyEdit uses Ctrl-Q to open the quote window, but that's mainly because IceEdit and DCTEdit (which SlyEdit was based on) did. But an alternate way to open the quote window in SlyEdit is to type /q on an empty line and press enter, in case Ctrl-Q doesn't work. Maybe I could change the hotkey from Ctrl-Q to something else, though a lot of other hotkeys are already being used in SlyEdit.

Seems to be only Ctrl-Q in video output mode curses and ansi as of syncterms manual.

Ok, thats a workaround i did not know about yet. Thanks!

You can press Ctrl-L to list commands to see what's available. Alternately, you can type /? on an empty line and press enter to list commands.
