From MICHAEL LOO@1:123/140 to NANCY BACKUS on Monday, July 08, 2019 09:46:50
No doubt... It's just the image conjured up, and the way it struck him
    as funny....
I suppose. People get amused by small things and things
about small things, I guess. And we have the ironic use
    of size terms, see below.
Sometimes it's just how something strikes one... ;)

It's always how something strikes one.

In this case I've tentatively traced it to the
router I'm connected to being haunted.
    That could explain it...
And some sites are reacting as if ignoring my inputs and
displaying to the tapping of a different drummer.
    That could be right scary...

It's happening fairly frequently. I try to remember
to put airplane mode on when I'm not actively using
the Internet, but I forget all too frequently.

slightly stoned guy standing enthralled by it for
several minutes. I asked him if he thought it was
broken, and he said he was scared to put his card
into it. I also refrained from doing so.
Yeah... I wouldn't trust my card to that either.... Any "natural" explanations of the phenomenon I could think of don't give any better confidence that one wouldn't lose the card....
It was amusing in the way Little Shop of Horrors was
    (I saw the original only).
I've only heard selected selections from it on the radio from time to
    time... and heard of it....

In my youth, popular culture was not quite the closed
book it now is to me.

... A cat is the visible soul of a home.
From the cat's point of view!
    Mais d'accord...

Dander is the real soul, though.

They might have some sort of arrangement for out-of-state regular visitors... possibly based on whether one has a current library card elsewhere...
They didn't ask for evidence of any.
And I gather you didn't ask, either....

I'm not sure about the sense of offering that kind
    of reciprocity, anyhow.

California is a diferent question -
you waltz in, and if you aren't a resident, you
pay $5 for a lifetime card (if you lose the card,
it's a buck to replace). I showed the librarian
my handicap placard, and the fee got waived.
    That's a nice setup... :)
    It worked well enough.
Were I to be likely in CA for any length of time (or lengths of time) it could be something to pursue.... :)

Placards do come in handy at times.

    ---------- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.02

    Title: Shrimp Mousse Dip
    Categories: Improv, Kohl, Appetizers
    Yield: 1 servings

1 cn Tomato soup 1 pk Cream cheese (8oz)
2 md Scallions, finely chopped 1 Celery stalk, finely
    choppe
1 pk Knox unflavored gelatin 1/4 c Water
1 lb Shrimp, cooked and chopped 1 c Best Food mayonnaise

Dissolve tomato soup and cream cheese over a low heat. Remove from heat.
Mix together the gelatin and water. Mix all the ingredients together and
put into a mold or pan. Chill for at least 2 hours. Serve with various
types of crackers - Ritz are excellent. NOTE: Do NOT cover with foil. A
reaction of the foil and the tomato soup causes holes to form in the
    foil!

It helps if one has some connection into it, after all... it's rather
closed to me as well... :)

Perhaps not, but I have run into it from time to time in my genealogical travels.... :)
