The members should weigh in as they see fit.
Something that I have said before is that a big difference, and a
critical one, in the fidonet echos versus some types of internet communication is that here messages are posted from one person to

That can be simulated by manually inserting a greeting at the
head of your posts that aren't "to all." It would add maybe
    5-10 sec per message.

another person most of the time. Usenet (the worst of the lot) does not
do that. Even when one is replying to a post by someone else it is not typical that the header info shows who you are replying to unless your software puts that at the top of the message (such as I do here with
    macros in Qedit).

The thing that can't be gotten around is the badness of Usenet,
which seems to be because it attracts angrier or more pathological
characters. I've not poked my nose into the newsgroups in a long time.

Many forums suffer from a similar flaw, albeit not as bad in that people
do reply to posts and replies to posts and that shows (e.g. Facebook).

I'm reluctant to rely on FB for anything.

The reason that this is important (at least to me) is that it increases
the civility of the echo. When one is talking to another person,
especially one who you know, you do not tend to talk in the same acrimony that all too often permeates some internet media.

    Well spoke.

What I had on Diwali (Hindu new year) -

    Sabudana vadai
    categories: Indian, Diwali, snack
    yield: 1 batcj

    1 c tapioca
    3 md potatoes, boiled, mashed
1 c roasted peanuts, coarsely ground
    3 green chiles, finely chopped
2 tb coriander leaves, finely chopped
    1 tb lemon juice
    salt to taste
    oil for frying

Deep fried sago and potato cutlets

Soak the tapioca in water for 2 hr. Drain
    excess water.

    Mix tapioca, potatoes, peanuts, chiles,
coriander leaves, lemon juice, and salt.

Divide the mix into sixteen balls.
Flatten between palms of your hands.

Heat sufficient oil in a kadai and deep
fry vadas till golden brown. Drain on
    absorbent paper.

Serve hot with coriander chutney. [M's
note: the ones I had on Diwali 2020 were
    served with tomato-cilantro chutney]

    Recipe Notes

For a healthier option, you can brush the hand shaped sago mix with some
oil and bake till golden and crisp.
