I'm hoping that a couple maybes turn into
yeses, and then I'll burn a few hotel points.
What I have is Shipps, Hafflys, you and me as yeses, and possibles as
Sean, Shawn and xxCarol... Do you have any other maybes...? Fords being local, so probably not needing lodging...

I think though fairly local they might want
to stay over especially if they planned to
attend more than one day's events. On the
other hand they seem to value their privacy
and have stayed in their own hotel room in
    picnics past.

Remember too that cats become less well-behaved
when they're in their extreme dotage.
Throgmorton (aka Throggy) pretty much keeps to himself, spends time in
the other half of the house with Bonnie and/or outside... and seems to
have rediscovered the litterbox... ;) Also seems to listen better than
    in his youth...

Rediscovered the litter box is a big plus.

Not much chance of a performance: the guys on
the west coast, though, might be looking at
such, even if they're less eminent.
Ah... so this was east coast, and playing for the fun of playing
together, then.... (or were you already in Europe...?)

Boston for a few days. The group was put
together by my friend the opera expert; I
e-mailed her with glee about having heard a
concert at the Semperoper, where many of
    Wagner's and R. Strauss's works were premiered
(including such fan favorites as Tannhauser and
Rosenkavelier). She sent back an envious note.

I'm within half a mile of Beethoven's birthplace
as I write this, where Lilli got drunk on
insufficient provocation being right around the
    corner from it.
How sad... so close and yet so far... That was on the possibly stronger
than normal red wine you referred to in another message...?

Actually, we walked past it without stopping.

Turns out she'd washed down a medication
with it that specifically said that alcohol
was not to be used with it, so likely her
    fault rather than the wine's.

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v7.07

Title: Portokalia Se Mavrothaphne - Oranges in Red Wine
    Categories: Desserts
    Servings: 6

    8 Navel oranges
    1/2 c Sugar
2 c Mavrodaphne or ruby port
    1 Bay leaf
    1 Clove

Remove the zest of 2 of the oranges with a zester; or pare finely with a
vegetable peeler, then cut into thin julienne strips. With a very sharp
knife, cut off the skin and outside membrane of all the oranges, so you
have glistening orbs of golden pulp. Do this over a bowl to catch
    escaping
    juice.

Choose a saucepan just large enough to hold 2 oranges at a time and put
    in
the escaped juice and remaining ingredients. Dissolve the sugar and
    simmer
for 5 minutes. Submerge 2 oranges at a time and cook just long enough to
warm them through - about 3 minutes. If they bob up, place a small
weighted saucer over them. Remove to a serving dish and continue with
    the
    next pair until finished.

Boil to reduce the syrup by half, drizzle over the oranges, and chill.

You didn't answer the question of any others...

Burton was just telling me how much more fun the more recent picnics
have been, being held in people's homes so that one benefits from things
like breakfast together, and evenings spent in talk... I think we'll
just be playing this bit by ear... :) The general impression I got was
that they'd likely be just coming from their home, though... Bloomfield
is within their normal range, apparently, as they've gone to the
Holloway House there for special occasions...

    Agreed. :)

Made the right impression on her, I see... :)

Ah... that's not so bad then... Is it open to visitors....?

Oh, dear... I've a med or two that aren't supposed to be used with
alcohol, but, while I mostly ignore that (being a not regular tippler),
I've not used alcohol as the liquid for taking them... ;) Is she
    mending her ways there....? ;)
