Quoting Bill Swisher to Jim Weller <=-
There was always a huge beer party right on the dock that would
last two days
It's always refreshing to hear about people who have their
priorities straight.
Imagine a hard rock mining town in the wilderness with 1000 men, 20
married women, 10 single women and no booze for almost 3 months. No
matter how much you bring in it only lasts for 9 months! And there's
no remaining canned fruit, sugar or molasses either so you couldn't
even make raisin jack or pruno.
Last Saturday's reenactment was pretty tame in comparison what with
a 2 AM last call, cops and liquor inspectors keeping an eye on
things, designated drivers and taxis and so on. OTOH about half the
celebrants were female and nobody fell off the dock and drowned.
We have two more party days coming up soon. We moved the Raven Mad
Days midnight street festival from the Solstice to June 22 because
June 21 is National Aboriginal Day which a joke in the south but a
real stat holiday here. My company is closing down for both of those
days.
And then there's Saint Jean Baptiste Day, Canada Day, American
Independence Day and then Bastille Day all coming up fast. Because
of all our immigrants we must honor all of these holidays which makes
it a hard month in which to be productive.
