Southern Ruth and I have had a conversation that
had a sidetrack "something to offend everyone" -
naturally, I was the only one to offer any such -
and the other night after coming back from Alaska
and faced with a diminished palette (and perhaps
palate), I needed a drink, being tired and somehow
depressed. The Kirkland Sonona Old Vine Zinfandel
was sort of off, and the brandy Alexander I made with
vanilla ice cream (the unice cream had gone off in
Lilli's absence) was too sweet, so I combined these
to make a pinky-brown somewhat curdled and ugly
sounds-bad beverage that was actually almost potable.

1 oz creme de cacao
1 oz brandy
1 oz vanilla ice cream
2 oz red wine

Shake together and strain over rocks.

It reminded me of this fruit frappe thing that
they used to serve at the Blue Parrot in Cambridge,
though that had orange flavor as well.
