Shawn and Andrea are still maybes. Andrea is enrolled in university
and it will all depend if she's accepted in Sept or Jan as a start
date. (yes I added Andrea without letting you know - we should know sometime early August)

Depends on my daughter's schedule too. As I'm self employeed I am
the go to babysitter of the 2 year old grandson and 8 year old boxer
now. It's not something I expected to be doing this often but life
is throwing curve balls again. ;)
Andrea was /just/ accepted into the program she wanted, now we're
waiting on the student loan application to process.

grandson... but dunno what you'd do with the boxer... ;)

I couldn't do that he doesn't have a passport and we can't get him
one right now due to an on going legal issue with his deadbeat loser asshole drug addict cheater of a sperm donar.

Not yet! LOL We have the passports... a week before I'm going to
give a percentage and then Andrea is going to decide at the last
minute. So even if she can't make it money permitting I'm still
wanting to try.

No, may have Steve call tonight. He's been busy with the chimney
since we got home from VT.
Hopefully everything is going well with his parents... :)
Dad is in rough shape. He's in the rehab facility, has major memory
issues and has fallen at least once. Other problems, but this isn't
the forum to discuss them. Keep all in prayer tho.
Sounds like a tasty stir-fry, too... ;)
T'was tasty, and extras went for another meal for us.
Worked out well all around, then... :)
That was the intention. Should have thought ahead and made some
egg rolls--made in quantity, freeze and reheat as needed.
You had that knee to worry about, though... shoulda done it
before your trip west, I'd guess... (G)
20/20 hindsight again. (G)
Yup.... ;)
One of these days I'll be able to do more of what I used to, but not immediately. Better I didn't get the apples in NY State this year but maybe another time.

Also have to make sure I take time out to cook so Steve doesn't
starve--I'll be making his annual pumpkin birthday (whatever--
cake, roll, pie) in a couple of weeks.
It's already that time of year again...! And you also need to
make sure you get your meals, too... :)
I am, trying to be good about getting ones that aren't super

So one would have to be rather professional (or at least very
experienced) already to get anything useful from the video for
even trying to replicate...
Probably so--they're running an ad on tv now but showing only
finished fruitcakes.
For an ad, that should probably suffice... :)
Yes, and since they also show some of their other products in the ad,
you see very little of the fruitcake making process.
BTW, were you wanting one so you could compare it to your
regular? I know we talked about it some a while back.
Actually, yes... I'd guess if you are buying them, they don't
have HFCS in them....?
The candied cherries might; I'll have to take a look. Don't think so but......anyway, will check out a store in Raleigh (near the fabric
store) that has carried them in the past.
It might have been still around when you went up there
afterwards, then... :) Maybe the fruitcake making was an
effort to cope with the situation....
They were probably available but we had other things on our mind
then. Making it could have been a coping effort--it was in Dad's
last few weeks and coming up on the anniversary of Mom's passing.
Mom used to try to get it made by the end of October to let it
age (but never poured alcohol on it)------------some years I
think she made it as early as Columbus Day. She used to complain
about not being able to get some of the ingredients (citron
being the major one) unless she went to Kingston or Oneonta.
So a family tradition... :)
She made them from before I could remember, up until probably about 5
or 6 years before she passed away. When our battalion in HI did a
family cook book, that was one of the recipies she submitted so I do
have a copy of it. One of my sisters, right after Mom passed away,
asked if I had a copy of the recipe--I pulled out a copy of the cook
book I'd given Mom, showed her where to find it and gave her the book.
(G)
I wasn't sure if you'd be sitting or standing for choir
practice... I've known some directors that want their choirs
up on their feet even for practice....
We're on our feet some, but not for the whole time. When we
gathered around the piano for the last number, I grabbed a
stool to sit while the others stood.
Good idea... :)
I'll most likely be using one on the performance day also.
Another good idea... :) Last time I sang in the Ladies'
Retreat Choir, I sat in a chair, sharing music with a woman in
a wheelchair... worked out very nicely... :)
Worked out quite well for you. We're a small church, even smaller
choir, so there's not a lot of room for chairs on the platform. Praise band instruments will be there as well so we fit in on the tight side. Accomodations are made for those who need but it's rarely more than
one or 2 people that need to be able to sit between numbers.
And it's good to not have that sort of thing get too buried in
the freezer... ;)
True, and some stuff has.
TIme to find it and eat it... (G)
It will be--got some chuck roasts at Sam's today; some may be cut up
for beef and gravy.
That sounds good... :)Today would have been a good day for it--cold and rainy--but we had
other plans. The week is supposed to be cold and wet until Friday,
then just cold. We've got some beef, juices and onion left over from supper the other night; I'll probably turn the juices into gravy and
shred the beef/onions into it.
I keep aware in other ways too, especially since Steve developed
the blind spots. Situational awareness, I guess.

I wonder which part of India she comes from... Our Indian students
said they had come from Mumbai, but originally were from South
India... and
that they liked their food very spicy... They said it was hard to get
it spicy enough here... So when they order from Raj Mahal or Tandoor,
they ask for it to be VERY spicy.... They also buy spices from a store next

Probably so; I know he's on fb but I don't do that. He might be
interested in the Southern Supreme version but his mother would
probably prefer the one she grew up with--she's very much a traditionalist, as is my younger brother, in the way they cook/eat.

Yes, but usually the music leader and some of his family take the
front pew on one side. The preaching pastor & his family and the church administrator & his wife take the other front pew.
I'm OK where I am, as long as there's room to put the leg up if
needs be. I could also sit on the other end and put it into the
side aisle, supported on the cane if I couldn't put it up.
Most of the time I'm sitting down, it is supported. Not at the kitchen table while working tho, it's just too awkward to put it up there.

bland, boring and not very varied. She was quite impressed
with the variety we have in the US, even just for breakfast.
I wonder which part of India she comes from...
TBH, I don't remember. I may be seeing her next month; she's going to
a college in the US for a Master's but will be visiting local family
for Christmas.
Our Indian students said they had come from Mumbai, but
originally were from South India... and that they liked their
food very spicy... They said it was hard to get it spicy enough
here... So when they order from Raj Mahal or Tandoor, they ask
for it to be VERY spicy.... They also buy spices from a store
next door to Raj Mahal (near Tandoor, actually, too), so that
they can cook their own food spicy enough... :)
Good thing they're in a major metro area--Rochester would have things
like that. I know there's a large Indian population in western Wake County; I think there are some Indian stores in that area, maybe even
some in Raleigh.
Good thing there wasn't an accident. Deer can pop out when you
least expect them, especially at twilight/early morning hours
so you really need to keep watch.
We were going home well after dark, but this time of year, they
could be there almost any time.... :)
True, looking for food while the humans sleep.
While there's a bit of light, I'll look into the fields as
well as the sides of the road but try to concentrate more on
the road sides. Don't want to take home any fresh venison.
Lydia did once, a few years ago.... It totalled her car, but
at least she got meat out of it....
I was a passenger in a car when the driver hit a deer years ago; he
took it home for his parents.

would NB>> his mother... :)No, he lives at home so usually comes to family things with his
parents. Don't know if he's a fruit cake eater/baker or not.
Ah... so you'd have a chance to ask him about as often as you
Probably so; I know he's on fb but I don't do that. He might be
interested in the Southern Supreme version but his mother would
probably prefer the one she grew up with--she's very much a traditionalist, as is my younger brother, in the way they cook/eat.
You never know what someone might end up liking... :)
So, if you were sitting in the front pew, you would have extra
space to stretch out the legs... :)
Yes, but usually the music leader and some of his family take the
front pew on one side. The preaching pastor & his family and the church administrator & his wife take the other front pew.
Ah... The typical unofficially reserved pews... ;)
I'm OK where I am, as long as there's room to put the leg up if
needs be. I could also sit on the other end and put it into the
side aisle, supported on the cane if I couldn't put it up.
Those both work, true.... :)
Most of the time I'm sitting down, it is supported. Not at the kitchen table while working tho, it's just too awkward to put it up there.
Find another chair to prop it up with....?
I hope we don't have the rollercoaster weather we had last
winter.... but we are expecting the high on Sunday to be in the
upper 50s... with rain....
We might actually get to the low 70s on Sunday.
An almost Indian summer, if brief... ;)

Sister is very much a "stick in the mud", not inclined to
do anything/change whatever routine/cooking/eating she's
used to. I think her SO is the same way.
Probably so... but there's a possibility, always a
possibility, no matter how slim.... (G)
Maybe a hair thin possiblity.
Ok... ;)
And my brother is very much the same way.
Third Sunday of the month, Steve is in the sound booth anyway--
except for this past Sunday. We had our Christmas choir/special
music during service so someone else filled in for him.
He sings in the choir, too...? Richard does our sound...
We both sing in the Christmas and Easter choirs. He does the sound
only once a month, normally, but will also fill in if needs be.
Depends on what I'm cutting but usually I'll just move from one
cutting project to another. I like to have all the prep work
done ahead, and if there's a lot of cutting, so much more so.
Get everything cut up, then take some time to get off my feet
before I have to stand for a while, cooking.
You'll have to figure out something for after the surgery,
though...
Some pre cutting up can be done in advance, as long as I watch the
time on my feet.
Or do it sitting... :) And Steve can stand to do the cooking... ;)
Or have it all prepped and just put it in the crock pot, "instant Pot"
(We don't have the name brand one of those.) or similar prep and
ignore type cooking. That works well for us.
We've had more winter than pre winter since the beginning of
November.
And I think you may have had more total snow this season than we
have... I'm sure we'll catch up as the season progresses... :)
Most likely. (G)
Still just getting small amounts... Do have a white Christmas
today, having had a little snow yesterday and a tiny bit more
overnight/this morning.... then the sun came out and cleaned off
my car for me, leaving nice fresh snow on the ground to sparkle
in the light... :)
Pretty; our Christmas was nice--but green and brown.
Might they could teach some cooking classes also? That would
be interesting.
That would indeed be interesting... :)
You can ask--maybe your church would be interested in doing it
as a group project,
That might be too much of an undertaking... there might be
something like that already in place, I'd think, with all of
the various groups locally that do work with placing refugees,
etc...
The prospect is there, something to think about. You might want
to see if several people might want to get together in a home
setting to do cooking classes.

It was a thought; I'd enjoy something like that, given the

Yup... :)
Keeps life interesting. (G)
Yup.... and unlikely that he'll ever be bored in his
"retirement"... ;)
Doesn't appear that way.
There's a major storm watch on now for Saturday night through
Monday night... Snow coming, windy, and even colder... High
Sunday is supposed to be in the low teens....
We're in the low 20s right now, but no snow. Steve has some cheese on
the smoker but otherwise we're staying in.
Had a young lady at church today ask if I could give her some
cooking lessons after my knee heals. I understand she knows
basics but wants to expand her cooking horizons somewhat.
That sounds like fun.... :) For both of you.... :)
That's what we figure. I gave her a basic red sauce recipe that day,
told her how it could be used for pizza, as well as pasta. This week
she asked about how to sew on buttons so will help with that on her day off later this week.
A supplemental Home Ec training... ;)
similar their system might or might not have been to ours....
We basically gained only a dozen active members, besides....
It was a thought, knowing that you just had the merger.
A reasonable thought... :)
And, who knows, somebody may decide it's a challenge worth
taking on.
Possible... remains to be seen.... :)
Steve's back up took a position with a church in the western part of
the state so is no longer available. Don't know if he (Steve) has had
any response to the "help wanted" appeal he's put out.
Hopefully he will... that's the sort of thing that got Richard in the situation he has... :)
Now, with the February date, I'll miss some early March
rehearsals, but should be able to participate with the choir
on Easter.
And you might even be well enough to stand by then.... ;
Possibly, but more likely sitting as it's about half an hour on my
feet elsewise.
Actually a very good idea to be sitting then... :)
seem NB>>>> an interesting technique....I think I'll not be branching out that way.... but it does

This weekend is much more settled than last.... proper winter
non-stormy weather... ;) Chances of light snow, with little
accumulation, highs in the 20s mostly, lows approaching 0 but not
below... Not the bitter
weather of earlier this month, nor the snow dump... ;)

Seems so. She came over to the retreat on her day off--showed her how
to do the first button. She then did the other 2 on her own, yesterday told me she did some minor repair sewing jobs at home afterwards.

One young man has stepped forward, hoping at least one more person
will.

We're getting another chance at snow flurries tomorrow night with a
major cold snap on Thursday. I'm glad Steve got the cheese done last
week.
