At the club they had doughy bad croissants that could
be miraculously morphed into the best of the caterer's
art by a run through the automated toasting machine.
With Ghirardelli instant hot chocolate made with
decaf, a breakfast fit for a king.

A jolly little flight, with the two boy flight attendants
trading innuendos (I looked around to make sure that there
were no children in the cabin, otherwise I'd have asked
for them to tone it down).

They offered a cranberry-blueberry muffin that was not too
sweet and not too bad. With this I had a Buffalo Trace and
a Coke chaser. For some reason they'd undercatered the
soft drinks, and I was poured just half of one.

It's always bumpity going into Newark. Perhaps the fumes that
come from that gehennalike place rise mephitically to try to
warn us away. We actually landed a fair amount early.

Then a sprint to the shuttle bus to the commuter terminal,
where my flight wasn't ready, so I had an hour at the club,
which was offering Southwest vegetarian chili (vegatable soup
with an acrid but neither spicy nor hot component) and
chicken enchilada soup, respectable and both spicy and hot
but with little things floating in it that made me want to
rethink my advocacy of insects in the diet - these turned
out to be undercooked black beans. A scoop of fatty bacon
bits from the spinach salad table improved things greatly.
Also on offer - pickled beets, chickpeas, spice cake, and
various cookies, chocolate and white chocolate chip.

The enchilada soup went so well with the very mediocre
Camelot Pinot Noir that I had three bowlsful of it, the
    third being half bacon.

The flight itself was a bumpy mess, but Anastasia the
flight attendant was cheery and offered me a lunch box
(as a United superelite). I turned it down, not wanting to
overdose on culinary delights so early in the day.

We got in early, so I waited a little at the curb before
Nancy picked me up; then we were on our way to Bloomfield
    and Lydia's house.

I'd met Lydia and possibly her quite lovely daughter Bonnie
before. Both proved to be delightful conversation companions,
Lydia knowledgeable about food, Bonnie knowledgeable about
    beverages both adult and child.

Present at the house - the Shipps, the Hafflys, Bonnie and
    Lydia, Nancy, and myself.

There were as always at these gatherings uncounted snacks
including quite nice peaches, peeled, sliced, and lightly
sugared. I had a bowl of these along with a chocolate and
    a white-chocolate macadamia cookie.

For our dinner out we voyaged to the Abyssinia restaurant in
Rochester, a bit over half an hour down the road but worth
the trip. It's an unprepossessing little place (seating
maybe 30 or 40), family run apparently, in a strip mall in a
safe but not very appealing neighborhood At dinner we were as
enumerated above minus Lydia and Bonnie and with the welcome
addition of Richard and the Fords.

The peaches were left over from Lydia's putting up peach jam and such
(she'd saved out a bowlful of peaches for Ruth's use)... the cookies
were also Lydia's fresh-baked ones, made just for us... :)

It's within walking distance of U of R and Strong Hospital... And indeed
the place is family run... :)

Edith had originally planned to be there, but decided she had too much
to do to be out another night... she particularly wanted to be at the
    picnic day... :)

... Help! I'm going through cherry cheesecake withdrawal.
