Ed Koon contacted me to say his system has died, a new one
is on order and it should be here Thursday or Friday :)
Thanks for the update. I know that a number of people here depend on
his system, at least in part.

Yes, it's true... and so I am glad he'll be back ASAP :)

He's back, and quite glad I am too... ;)

Glad to see you back here -- stick around a bit more. We miss you.

Thanks Dale, I do read the echo often (as often as I can at least).

I second that... we do miss you...

Things are generally going well with Ron's Aunt living here. Last
week, the ambulance took her to the ER since she was feeling a bit
off. She is over 99 now IIRC, and keeps us busy.

That can keep you busy, for sure... and I'm sure that you are also
enjoying having her with you, she sounds like one neat lady... :)

As the attendants were checking her and preparing to transport her to
the ER one of them asked her how her appetite was, and was she eating
ok? She said, Oh yes, _certainly_ and then said, 'you should see all
the amazing things that Janis cooks here!' I smiled at that, it was
funny to see her bragging to them about my cooking :)

And nice that she is obviously appreciative of your cooking... I'm sure
that living with you and having good meals cooked for her and good
company to eat them with has done a lot for keeping her in good
health... failure to thrive is such a problem usually for the very
    elderly...

I always have greek yogurt here as well.. I make it in my Instant Pot,
it is so good and so easy.. :) I'll post more about that here in
    another message.

Sounds like you need to get back to posting... ;)

I'll try to stick around.. life as you know is nutso.. Next week I have to take
my two dogs (eh.. true mutts) to the vet. Indy, the boy, has what looks like a
big sebaceous cyst on his chest, and Sophie has some kind of weird rash on her
tummy (like bad reaction to something outside or to her flea med,etc.).. I'm hoping for their sake they can be treated easily.. they are not young anymore..(I think 10yrs. old now?)

off. She is over 99 now IIRC, and keeps us busy.

She is... and thankfully we have lots of help for her... Aides come in 3x a week for her alone (showers, cleaning her room, doing her laundry), when we run
to Dr's offices for her or us we have my son keep an eye on things while we're
gone. My daughter has moved to Philly (Oracle) so it's great that he's living here.

Oh yeah, one thing this lady appreciates is good food LOL I'm glad she does really :) She and I are planning the apple/pumpkin pies right now that I'll make this fall :)

that living with you and having good meals cooked for her and good
company to eat them with has done a lot for keeping her in good
health... failure to thrive is such a problem usually for the very
    elderly...

One of the meals-on-wheels coordinators always says how wonderful things are for her here. That's good I think. Meals-on-wheels sends a lady to make sure the food we get for Aunt Gert is ok with her :)

I always have greek yogurt here as well.. I make it in my Instant Pot,
it is so good and so easy.. :) I'll post more about that here in

    I'm getting there Lol

    Take care,
    Janis

I'm pretty sure that we met your daughter and her son during one of the
two picnics at your current home. IIRC, they both have a lot of food

    Title: Joan's Herbal Corn Salad
    Categories: Salads, Vegetable
    Yield: 1 Servings

    1/2 c Bermuda onion, diced
    1/4 c Water
3 c Sweet corn kernels, raw or
    Cooled, drained and chilled
1/2 c Red bell pepper, cored,
    Seeded, and diced
1/2 c Green bell pepper, cored,
    Seeded, and diced
1/2 c Black or green olives,
    Sliced
    1/2 ts Curry powder
    1/2 ts Dried oregano
    1/2 ts Turmeric
    1 sm Avocado
    1 Lemon's juice
    Salad greens, fresh lettuce
    From the
    Garden or dandelion greens
    From the
    Co-op
    2 tb Fresh cilantro, chopped

In a small skillet, cook the onion in the water until translucent,
    about 3 minutes. Cool.

Meanwhile, in a salad bowl, place corn kernels, diced red and green
peppers, sliced olives, curry, oregano, and turmeric; toss together.

In a medium bowl, mash the avocado and add the lemon juice, mixing
well. Add the cooled onions and the avocado mixture to the salad
bowl; toss to coat vegetable s with seasonings and avocado. Serve on
a bed of salad greens garnished with chopped cilantro.

    Makes 8 servings.

VARIATION: Sprinkle salad with cut-up crab or small cooked shrimp
    before adding

NOTE: Hinkley adds fresh chopped day lily leaves, lovage leaves, and
1/2 teaspoon chopped fresh horseradish leaves to this mixture. She
warned that the salad should be eaten fresh because it does not keep
    well.

    Hi Dale,

I'm pretty sure that we met your daughter and her son during one of the
two picnics at your current home.

Oh yes, that's true - She has 3 boys... I think the oldest probably came with her.

IIRC, they both have a lot of food
    allergies / sensitivities, correct?

Yes, they surely do... no glutens, mushrooms, dairy.. One thing they can all eat though is steak or roast beef so that works. She always comes over with food that is safe for all of them, so that's also a good thing for them.

    Take care,
    Janis
