They do indeed and they're delicious. So are the cheeks. I had them
both a few times the summer I lived in Newfoundland. And what's
left of the heads makes good stock for chowder.

I do the same things here with lake trout.

Categories: Fish, Cod
Yield: 1
cod tongues and cheeks
If you can find cheeks with the jawbone still attached, fry them
like chicken pieces in deep fat. They're fantastic! Without the
bone, they are still tasty and rival the flavor of a sea scallop
(in fact, they may be substituted in any sea scallop recipe.)
Together with the tongues, they make a super chowder or
old-fashioned hash.
Before using tongues, remove membranes and any jellied parts.

Sooooooo good. Friend of mine drives a truck and when he goes down
east a couple times a year he takes a cooler with him and loads it
up with ice and fresh fish from the coast. This is something he made
for lunch one day and now I'm always on him for more. :)

Good luck. They're not common fare outside of Newfoundland and maybe
Maine, We used to have a Newfie grocery and fish store here but it's
long gone. The guy carried things like pails of salt naval beef,
hard tack (Purity biscuit), dried salt capelin, dulse and kelp, even
canned seal meat (back when there was still a market for it). When-
ever he had a shipment of cod tongues and cheeks (frozen) come in,
they disappeared overnight.

Yes, I see what you mean there... when I searched for Cod at Wegmans
food store, the only result was the familiar fillet.. and a search for tongue at least showed beef tongue :)
I can get canned snails at Wegmans, they are good, I've picked them up before :)

I suppose you could ask at the Fish counter if they'd ever get cod heads in.... ;) And yes, Wegmans generally does carry beef tongue... lately
I've only seen it in the frozen meats off the end of the fresh meat
counter, not out with the fresh meats.... but it is still available... :)

Michael and I found them at your store to get for the "offal" picnic at
your house, the first year you had it in the new house... :) And I
since found them in our store, so that I could share the experience with Richard... ;)

I imagine so... (G) I sent you a description of the one at my sister's

On the day itself, we went to Taste of
Japan... Fu was open (he is every holiday, never takes a day off), so we always figure, why not... (G) We both ordered the all you can eat
sushi... He had seaweed salad for his appetizer, I had the curry chicken
on a stick for mine... miso soup and tossed salad with Fu's dressing
came with... He had ice cream for dessert, I just asked for some of Fu's tomago (egg omelet)... In between, we had 8 pieces of nigiri and 3 rolls
(8 pieces each) apiece... another true feast... :)

Sounds truly good :) :) I swore after knocking myself out (again)
last week that this would be the last time I would do so and future Holiday meals would be enjoyed in a Restaurant! :) Now let's see if I
can actually hold to that promise to myself when the time arrives...

Yeah, it is. Most cakes/breads do dry out if you freeze them - I

I understand! My allergies are constantly changing, what a PITA. Not

vaping the last few times, and did that for a while this last time... I
think she's not even doing that any more.... and she didn't pick up the
cigs again.... she's still too mad at the companies to want to support
them any more with her habit...
Anyway, allergies are not something one should mess with; that I know
for a fact :(
That's for sure.... I have issues with almost every drug I've tried...
it's rare when something will actually work, and not give any issues... usually it doesn't work (or barely works) and does give me a lot of issues.... I'm very leery of any new prescription, as you might

Yes, it does though as I mentioned to Ron's aunt way back when I was trying to convince her to move in with us (instead of her living with

I just had a bad feeling about her moving in with someone who was not really a family member.. it all seemed innocent enough, until a bit

removed from Ron's aunt's account. You can probably guess where those funds ended up :(

going to a good Italian bakery like Sopranos (in Waverly NY https://sopranosmarket.com/) but for american fare, or a good birthday cake, it's great. :)
For dinner, we had barbequed spare ribs - he was happy (no chickenDoesn't hurt to indulge him on his birthday.... :)
Lol). He is just like my Uncle Ralph was as far as chicken goes.. he
inspects it for 'fat' and generally won't eat any bird at all :)
Tastes, at least in my family, seem to be genetic haha
True - I usually ask the person who's birthday we'll be celebrating
what they'd like to eat for their birthday dinner, along with what kind
of cake. :) I figure it's only fair Lol

A friend of mine here got so mad at the cigarette companies
when they admitted that they had put things into the cigs to make
smokers more addicted to them, that she finally just stopped cold

Yes, they can indeed have interactions with say prescribed

Though lately I've been wrapped up in making cheese cakes since Ron's
aunt loves them :) :) When I have ricotta cheese in the fridge: ===Cheesecake===
Oven 400F for 15 minutes, then reduce the heat to 350 for 45 min. more
3 pounds whole-milk ricotta
1 cup sugar
4 large eggs, separated
Finely grated zest of 1 large lemon 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1 tablespoon Strega liqueur (Cointreau or Triple Sec may be
substituted)
Position a rack in the center of the oven. Preheat to 400F. Butter a 9-inch spring form pan and place on a baking sheet.
In a stand mixer fit with the paddle, beat the cheese, sugar, egg
yolks, lemon zest, vanilla and liqueur on medium until very smooth,
about 4 minutes. Transfer the mixture to another mixing bowl and wipe
out the mixer bowl. Whip the eggwhites, then fold them into the cheese mixture. Pour the cheese mixture into the pan and bake.

Yes, this cheesecake has no crust.. just cheese :)
