beef, mechanically separated chicken, water, corn
syrup, soy protein concentrate, less than 2% of salt,
spices, dextrose, paprika and paprika extractives,
flavoring, hydrolyzed soy, corn, and wheat proteins,
lactic acid starter culture, sodium nitrite. Mechanically
    separated chicken??
I have often wondered as to exactly what is the process involved in "mechanically separated" meat products. OTOH, I have also decided that
it is one of those things "you don't want to know".

Pretty much, though the product most likely is
harmless. Suffice it to say that it involves
crushing bones and subjecting them to pressure
and heat and then (of course) machine separating
    protein matter from bone bits.

The title of this on totally caught my eye.
    Title: Chopped Liver
    Categories: Vegetarian, Jewish

I had lentil chopped liver-like substance, and
though not convincing, it didn't taste bad.
Better perhaps than some things that actually
do contain meat. Even the relatively rare
original Slim Jim, which doesn't list mechanically
separated meat, has the following as well as beef -
water, corn syrup, hydrolyzed soy protein, salt,
spices, smoke flavor, garlic powder, onion powder,
    flavor (contains milk solids), maltodextrin,
sugar, sodium erythorbate, sodium nitrite, malic
acid, disodium inosinate, and disodium guanylate.

This vegetarian "chili" recipe has 24 times
as much sugar as cumin, which is kind of
    mind-boggling.

    Title: Vegetarian Chili Texas Style
    Categories: Soups/stews, Vegetables, Microwave, Chili
    Yield: 6 servings

    2 c Granule burger -beans
    2 c Boiling water 3 ea 8-oz can tomato
    paste/sauce
    1/4 c Salad oil 1 c Water
1 c Chopped onions 1 tb Chili powder

1 ea 28-oz can whole tomatoes 2 ts Salt
2 ea 15-oz can cooked kidney 1 ts Oregano leaves

Good slow pot recipe. Longer cooking enhances the flavor.
Soak granule burger in boiling water for 10 minutes or more.
Place oil in heavy saucepan. Combine onions, green pepper,
garlic and saute inoil. Add the granule burger to the sauteed
vegetables, cook for 5 minutes. Add the rest of the
ingredients. Simmer at least 1 hour. Unattributed.
