Roslind's work load restricted the amount of Christmas baking she
does but she managed to make three large batches of cookies and
pack tins to mail out to Ray and Raine's new blended families. (Both
of them went through breakups and have recently found new partners
so we now have more step-grandkids than ever!)
We did host a simple Christmas Eve buffet. That turned out to
be smaller than anticipated. We expected 15 people but only 5 showed
up. One group had a recent death in their family and weren't in the
mood to go out. So we have tons of leftovers in the freezer. Roslind
had made a gallon of Glogg, three large tourtieres and two dozen buns
while I had made a large pot of baked beans with bacon and maple
syrup together with a vegetable dish. Dessert was simply cookies and chocolates.
Christmas was very quiet as we stayed home, because Roslind's
sister, our would be hostess, had to work (she's at a hotel chock
full of Chinese tourists) and so we had the traditional turkey
dinner at her place on Boxing Day instead. We just got back from
it.
Winter is finally here and things are back to normal. It's already
-32 and forecast to drop to -35 overnight, with a wind chill
equivalent of -45. Now that I'm home for the night I plan to hunker
down indoors for a while. Definitely a more rum kind of night.
Cheers
Jim
