It would be cool to put together a platter of say
half a dozen kinds of chicharrones. Puffy fried
rinds, small cubes of meat and fat cooked in lard,
Colombian pork belly with the familiar sawtooth
appearance, fried chicken skin, fried chicken, and
chicharrones de queso (fried cheese things). There
are enough of us who like crunchy and fatty things
that it would be a worthwhile project.
Ooooooo.... that DOES sound good..... (G)

Easily doable with a few extra hands to help with
    stuff like shredding cheese.

Understandable for that sort of news to hit hard...
When people a decade younger start falling off
the branch, one starts to worry. Of course she
(as does Lilli) puts on a brave face mostly
Can't really do much else... I'm getting to an age now that I
understand mine and Richard's grandparents a lot better.... both in the looking back to a simpler time, and in feeling the pinches of losing
friends and family, some of which are younger.... and increasingly so,
    as one continues to age....

Oh, for sure, but I'm still not a filing the
edges off person, even if my way involves a
little more heartache now and then.

I just got a notice of a friend passing, but she
had an excuse - she was 85, and her husband went
a year or two ago. But things do weigh heavy.
    Indeed....

For the longest time our class death notices
were way below those of even several classes'
behind us, but we're catching up.

    ... People say I'm apathetic, but I don't care!

I read "people say I'm spaghetti, but I don't cafe."

    Dad's Spaghetti Sauce with Coffee
    categories: odd, Italian, pasta, main
    yield: about 3 qt

3 Tb extra virgin olive oil
    4 cloves garlic, slivered
    2 lg onions, sliced
1 lg green bell pepper, sliced
2 Tb extra-virgin olive oil [sic]
1 1/2 lb extra lean ground beef
8 oz canned button mushrooms, drained
1 pt jar spaghetti sauce with garlic
    1 1/2 pt tomato sauce
6 oz tomato paste, or to taste (optional)
    1 Tb instant coffee granules
    1 c hot water

Place 3 Tb olive oil into a saucepan over medium
heat, and cook the garlic in the oil for 1 min.
Stir in the onions, and cook until translucent,
5 more min. Stir in the green bell pepper, and
cook until the pepper begins to become tender,
5 more min. Set the vegetables aside.

Place remaining oil into a large saucepan over
medium heat, and cook and stir the ground beef
until the meat is no longer pink, about 10 min.
Break the meat up into crumbles as it cooks. Mix
in the mushrooms, spaghetti sauce, tomato sauce,
tomato paste (if you prefer a thicker sauce),
and vegetables. Bring the sauce to a boil, and
reduce heat to a simmer. Cook 30 min, stirring
occasionally, until the flavors have blended.

Mix the coffee granules into the hot water, and
pour into the sauce; simmer for 30 more min.
