So we got into Nuremberg midafternoon and
checked into the Hampton again, which was
welcome and friendly and gave us more drink
coupons than we deserved. After a glass of
wine, it seemed to be time to eat, and there
was this place that I'd heard about, Bohms
    Herrenkeller, which supposedly serves the
best fish in town as well as the usual local
fare, so we went over. It was closed, with a
sign saying that it would be open in an hour.
So we meandered through the less touristy parts
of town, which I hadn't seen or at least hadn't
remembered, in half a dozen times (I like the
city, and my friend Fozzy used to live there).
Back to Herrenkeller, and the door was open,
but there was nobody inside. We hallooed a bit
and then did the better part of valor thing and
went to the buzzing Pillhofer down the street.

The clientele and the staff were all festive
and jolly enough, and so we stayed for supper,
splitting 6 Bratwurst, substituting potato wedges
for the kraut, which neither of us is that fond
of, plus I had to get on an airplane in 12 hours,
plus Schaufele slices in brown gravy, served with
a dumpling cut into eighths and fried and that
darned Blaukraut, which I had to taste. The pork
shoulder was kind of dry, but the dumpling pieces
were the best I've ever had. Blaukraut, what can
I say, it was not blue (never is) but sort of mud
colored; it was sweet-and-sour. The sausages ere
among the best Wurst in town.

We split a half liter of the house red wine, a
Blaufrankische, I think, which was actually decent.

A satisfying heavy meal, conducive to heavy sleep.
Which we couldn't enjoy, as I had an early plane.

We parted, Lilli to the train to Frankfurt, myself
to the airport for my flight to Zurich, which was
fine. I had a bit of time to relax beforehand at
the Senator Lounge, where I actually eschewed the
beer and booze offerings and just had some cold
cuts washed down with Schweppes bitter lemon,
which I try to drink whenever I find it, which is
seldom and mostly in Europe. Oddly, this lounge
did not offer any gin, which is a glaring omission
giving the presence of both bitter lemon and tonic
water, both excellent mixers for that liquor.

The flight was uneventful, as usual, as one would
expect for a Swiss flight operated by Austrian.
