It was easy for me to save up for lunch, because
even then I found milk dubious in taste and effect.
On rereading I came up with "milk duds untasty,"
    which isn't true.
Indeed... Those eyes are getting bad.... Reminds me of the time a

    Yeah, getting. That's right, getting.

younger sister misread "They're Double-Toasted" as "They're Dollabar"...
it, of course, became a family saying....

    I read Nullarbor.

I can see that... and for me, even then, I enjoyed milk, at least when
    it wasn't off-taste.... (G)
Which, let's face it, is much of the time.
If properly handled, and fresh enough, and not in a cardboard carton it tastes rather nice... ;) Of course, back in the school days, the
school milk was probably fresh enough, but often not well handled, and
was in those little waxed cardboard milk cartons.... :)

Yeah, those. I sort of dreaded them, but on
the other hand facing lunch without liquid
was also a cause for apprehension.

Not yet... was kinda waiting for my sister to initiate, but perhaps that is being too optimistic.... ;) I'll probably call our mutual friend and push her to arrange it again.... :) She's more into back-and-forth texting than I am...
Hah - I understand, having received exactly
one telephone text message in my life, and
    that by accident.
I didn't have to call Juanita, my sister made the contact, and we have rescheduled it now... :) Planned for the 11th.... :)

I actually don't see skim milk being good for
anything except to assuage the guilty
consciences or neuroses of eaters with wrong
    priorities.
I'm certainly with you there.... I did, back in my baking days, add powdered skim milk to the mix for enrichment... but there'd be whole
milk in there as well.... the skim was beyond and above....
You could I suppose have added any number
of supplements in addition or instead.
Probably... and I did add some other things as well, such as raisins to bread... ;) But I tended to not get too exotic... :)

Of course ... simpler the better, as an
    oft-used here tagline implies.

... Did you hear about the baker who was short of dough?
Yeah, there was a movie not long ago about him.
Don't ask how I know about it, but I didn't see
    the movie.
You have a wider network than most for information... ;)

The movie was called, as I recall, Fantastic
Beasts and Where to Find Them.

Title: ANNE AND BILL'S APPLE OATMEAL BREAD WITH RAIS
    [I read rats]
Clearly that last should have been RAISINS, just got truncated...

    I read rats again.

    Categories: Breadmaker, Breads, Poisonous
But truly, the apple made it poisonous.... :)

    Damper - basic version
    categories: Nullarbor, bread
    yield: 1

    1/3 c self raising flour
    1 pn salt
    1 ts milk powder
    2 Tb water

Turn your stove on low and start heating
    the pot.

Mix the dry ingredients into a bowl and
add 1 Tb water and mix with a knife.
Keep folding the mixture on itself and
then add the rest of water but don't
let the mixture get too sticky.

Place a small amount of flour on a clean
flat surface and place the dough on it,
ensuring that dough has a light coating
of flour on the outside and shouldn't
stick to your hands when handled.

Cut a cross into the top of the damper
and place it into your pot and cover.
Turning the heat up too much results
in damper with a tough bottom and mushy
insides. It's better to leave it on the
lower heat and brown it slowly - 25 to
    35 min is usually good.

    Notes

The above recipe uses dry goods to make
the damper as they are easy to carry,
store and last a long time.

I use a old steamer that has had the
folding wings taken off it to keep the
damper off the bottom of the pot.

You can add the milk powder to the
water before mixing it in, and use a
small amount of milk to coat the top
of the damper to help it turn golden.

Can be eaten with anything you fancy,
vegemite, maple syrup, honey or can be
eaten as is. This version makes a small
    bread roll size damper.

    Ok... there.... Worsening, even.... sigh...

Yup... which is why I'd go for chocolate milk any time I could...

Hmmm... I've either heard of the movie, then, or at least seen the cover
of the book somewhere (maybe at Lydia's).... didn't know it had anything
    to do with dough, though...
