    Modern technology. I'm losing the unit at the end of this week;
it was a rental to use for the first 3 weeks post op. Probably
the knee flex machine will be picked up around then also.
I hope you've outgrown both by that time.

Basically, yes. The doctor had hoped to pull the rest of the stitches
out today but the line started separating when the tech tried it. So, they're still in and the knee area is wrapped up tight again. But,
both machines are gone and I'm doing outpatient therapy.

Ugh... that's not good about the line separating... hadn't really
healed, then.... At least you don't need the machines anymore....

Swann: Vitamins are poison now? I wish they'd make
    their minds up.
It's usually amounts that are way far above the normal intake
that make them poisonous. I remember reading about explorers
in the Actic and Antartica taking huge amounts of vitamin A but
don't remember what for, and how they were able to do so without
    poisoning themselves.
    I hadn't read that.

I think it was in something I read as a kid.

I remember reading something of the sort.... As I recall, the huge
amounts of Vitamin A weren't intentional, but because they were eating
the livers of polar bears, which had high concentrations thereof... I
don't recall what, if anything, they were able to do to detoxify
themselves... I do remember it being a problem....

I halfway suspect most of us will take a pass. Those that don't
have a Wegman's nearby or never been in one may want to check it
    out.
Now that xxCarol has one in Va Beach, that would just leave
    Sean, NB>> probably.... ;)

Apparantly so, and IIRC, he's been to the one in Williamsport.

True... so he's at least been exposed to it... :) Williamsport
apparently isn't the best example of a good Wegmans, though, so he
    might still be interested.... ;)

I'd not recommend trying to go on opening day tho. As much publicity as
they're getting, that area is going to be super saturated with traffic
that day, and probably for the next few days also.

The incision is beginning to heal but still have to limit the
range of motion exercises somewhat. Had a good work out
yesterday--and really felt it afterwards. I did remember to
ask to have it iced before I left the clinic; that was a help.
One does have to keep things in balance... enough to help, not
so much as to hurt.... ;) And the icing does indeed help when
it's just a bit over the edge after all.... :)

I'm doing better at remembering to ask to ice it at the clinic since
we don't always go straight home.

    Good thinking....

Possibly, but for now I'll be researching picnic
    possibilities.
Something else to occupy your research time... ;)
Very much so. We now know that we can go to Wegman's on Sunday
or Monday of picnic week end. (G)

I iced it yesterday after making a Strawberry Yum Yum for the annual

Exactly! The desserts and auction just make it more fun.
    Indeed. :)
Especially when the bidding wars get really crazy. One of the
youth tried to bid X dollars and Y cents but the treasurer
reminded him that all bids had to be whole dollar amounts. He
then rounded his bid up to the next dollar but dropped out when
the bids went up even more.
Ran out of money, I guess... :) Or decided that maybe it wasn't
worth any more to him... :)

    Possibly a bit of each?

Ah, ok... that could be, too... :)

happened to talk to Sallye, and she reminded me that Cary
was first, and happened maybe last year....?
I'm not sure if the Cary one is open yet.
Something to check on... Sallye was pretty sure that they'd
opened last fall.... :) As I recall, that one was closer to
where her daughter in SC has been....
OK, I'll check the web site.
Did you...? and what did you find out...?
The Cary store is just listed among the "Future Sites"--no date
given for those. The Raleigh store is among those listed as
    opening in 2019.
Hmmm... that's interesting... wonder what happened there,
then... And I wonder which store Sallye was talking about, too....

Probably the mid town Raleigh store.

I don't think so, though, as she thought it already opened... Maybe they
hit some snags in Cary that delayed things... Sallye ended up needing
surgery, and then went ahead and fully retired from the Wegmans job at
the end of 2018... possibly snags happened while she was out of work...

    Hi Nancy,

    Or both... (G)
No, I'll do one, Steve will do one. That's enough as some of the
other families do 2 (or more, if kids do one also) desserts.
Always enough desserts to auction off that way... :)

And a good variety as well.

Which is part of what makes it so enjoyable every year,,, :)

That, and the bidding competition. It can get crazy sometimes.

Tasting bars and all. The burger bar should be interesting; the
Brockport store doesn't have one so we've never tried it.
Sometime when you are in town, you could check out the
Pittsford one, if you haven't had a chance at the Raleigh one
    before that... :)
We'll see--Raleigh one is only 3 months away from opening now.
    True... :)

We were down in the area on Monday. The construction fence is gone now
so we could see inside the plaza better. Looks like work is
progressing well but know there are a lot of small jobs to finish
    between now & then.

As is to be expected... ;)

Yes but it will be nice when it finally opens. Somebody was commenting
    recently that they didn't understand all the "hype" about Wegman's;
she'd been in one and was not that impressed with it. Maybe she needed
to spend more time in one? (G)

It partly depends on what area of a store one does most of their
shopping... and what sort of quality they want and are willing to pay
for... For me, Wegmans easily wins hands down... the things that matter
to me are at least as inexpensive as at any other store, the quality of
the fresh foods (produce, meats, seafood, dairy, bakery) is as good or
better than anywhere else, I don't mind paying a little more for good
fresh food to be prepared at the store for me, and so on.... and the convenience of it all in one place... Apparently Aldi's is a better fit
for some people, including my youngest sister (MG).... shrug... :)

place but when they open up in WF, it may be our primary store.
Quite understandable.... I wouldn't be surprised if you find
yourselves stocking up on some stuff from the Raleigh store,
though, until the WF store opens up... ;)
Possibly, have to see when the store opens up. Right now Publix
is our "go to" for the higher quality stuff.
And you do have the farmer's market for produce and such... :)

Yes, I got an eggplant and a butternut squash (and some baked goodies) there today. Steve got some strawberry honey and a mug.

Nice. :) BTW, I found pattypan squash at Wegmans, last week's
shopping... grabbed a couple, as they looked really nice... :)

    Hi Nancy,

on them... do the bidders know who made the goodies ahead of
    the bidding...?
Yes, we fill out a card with our name, title of dessert and a
brief description. Also indicate if it's gluten or dairy free.
    Useful information... :)

Quite, especially for those that have problems with gluten, dairy or whatever.

Keeps one from bidding on something that wouldn't be appropriate... :)

Unless they intend to share it or have a family whose other members have
no issues. That has happened, quite often.

I may do a strawberry pound cake next year, if I can figure out a way to
get it out of the cast iron fry pan successfully.

We like to explore new to us stores, sometimes finding a goodie
or RH>> two that will be worked into our general cooking then and

That works for some stores... not so much a Price Chopper or a

Sargento's sharp cheddar sticks that I have to usually buy in
bulk at BJ's, or the Polly-O whole milk string cheese...

So stock up when you can.

I stocked the fridge up at the Pond before I left... they'll still be
good when I get back there in early September, no problem...

Sounds good, hopefully no power problems.

We've learned to make things that can be eaten by all. The broccoli

Good idea. We've got a few basics in the camper but usually bring all
foods in, especially after the last trip of the year. Rotates our stock

Unless they intend to share it or have a family whose other
members have no issues. That has happened, quite often.
In that case, there's a plan for using it anyway... :)
If there are teens with no allergy issues in the family, it
    will be devoured. (G)
I'm sure that would be the case... :)
We have several families in the church that are of that make
    up. (G)
    No surprise there, really... :)

We've learned to make things that can be eaten by all. The broccoli
salad is one of those--and it's popular across the board, allergies or not.

As long as nobody's allergic to broccoli... (G)

Sounds good, hopefully no power problems.
Shouldn't be any that would really make a difference... the
fridge would stay closed and hold in the cool, and the cheese
sticks actually stay pretty well without refrigeration when I
    take them on trips...
And you should be up there in another week or so. If push comes
to shove, I presume probably RJ would take care of things for
    you?
Presumably... :) None of the packages have been opened and the
best-by date is a ways out, so they'll keep just fine, even if
I don't get there until my fall meeting in October... :)
Then clean out the fridge since you won't be back until spring?
Yes, when I close camp, I take everything out of the fridge and
bring the stuff home until I return in the spring... the power
is off for the winter by our own doing... :) In the meantime, I
leave some stuff here, just so I don't have to bring it back and
    forth... :)

Good idea. We've got a few basics in the camper but usually bring all foods in, especially after the last trip of the year. Rotates our
stock so that the next year we start fresh. Fridge stuff comes in after every trip tho, as we don't always keep the fridge running between
    trips.

Makes sense... :) I also don't leave anything at the camp over the
winter that might be hurt by freezing, since it can get pretty cold
    there as well... :)

They also have a big billboard down in Raleigh and made a
(IIRC) 7,000 lb food donation to the main area food bank.
Really making their presence known, even before they open up.
I guess...! :) They regularly donate to the local food banks
on a regular basis from the established stores, without much
fanfare... but I can see where that could help them establish a
    presence in a new area...
Especially for those that have no idea other than "it's just
    another grocery store".
    Indeed. :)
    They will learn........(G)
    Yup.... :)

Only a couple more weeks (and a few days) now until the Raleigh store opens.........................but who's counting? (G)

    Obviously not you...!! (G)

Wait till the crowds subside a little... (G) Which, actually,
might be part of the reason for opening on a Sunday.... the
traffic jams wouldn't cause as much havoc on a Sunday as on a
    weekday.... at least potentially anyway....
They had electronic signs along nearby highways/roads, off duty
    police, etc on Sunday.
    Crowd contol measures.... :)

From the write up of the grand opening day, having that kind of crowd control was quite useful.

Apparently.... :) I guess the buzz and hype worked.... ;)

Did you see my note to Dave Drum about opening day?
Yup... and I think I replied to it... :)

Makes me half wonder what the "why do we need another supermarket?"
people are thinking now--and if any of them have checked out Wegman's.

Good questions.... ;) If they did check out the new Wegmans, maybe
they got the answer to their question.... ;)

    Hi Nancy,

And a nice salad it is... :) I have a friend that's allergic
to bacon, actually, so she'd have to pick those bits out, or
    not NB>>> have the salad...
Or, if I knew ahead of time, I'd pull some out for her before I
added the bacon to the rest. Can she have other pork products?
As far as I know, it's just the bacon that she's allergic to...
she does get pulled pork at El Latino (our local Dominican food
    restaurant)...

Must be something in the curing--a nitrite, nitride or whatever.

Probably. I'm not sure it she ever actually identified the culprit...

Most likely one of the curing agents.

ice than we do... Off the end of Lake Ontario gets lots more
than they do, or we do... it can however get quite cold...
Which makes me glad I'm here, not there. (G)
It's all in what one is used to... :) They'd not be happy
    with your summers... ;)

September and early October were not normal here; be glad you missed
the day we hit 100. (G)

    Oh, I certainly am.... (G)

That was an anomoly to have it in October.

Those of us that did "hype it up" must have done a good job. Our mail
carrier said thaat he's not been yet but his wife had, and wasn't that impressed with it. Last time we were there, we bought some lime mint
sparkling water--found out we don't care for that flavor. A very heavy spearmint taste, IMO. May try to take advantage of their "money back if
    not satisfied" guarantee.

Hard to tell. N&O did do a story on price comparing, found out Wegman's
was as low (or lower than) a lot of the other stores in the area.

Quite so, and now we're in a brief warm (got up to 70 yesterday) spell.
A major dip in the jet stream is predicted for next week, bringing very
    cold temps--but no snow.

Probably attached to her favorite stores. Wegman's, especially the
