HFCS destroys a lot of things. I do not drink a lot of soda/pop/cola,
but I do have my favorites. They were all better back when they
    contained real cane sugar instead.

A lot of drink makers are offering cane sugar beverages again.

The new Coca-Cola Life in the green can is sweetened with a blend of
cane sugar and stevia so it has 2/3 of the calories of the regular
version and no artificial sweeteners, unlike diet and zero.

    Title: About Lithuanian Holiday Cakes
    Categories: Lithuanian, Cakes, Holiday, Info
    Yield: 4 servings

    Cakes

Lithuanian people do not have a sweet tooth. Baked goods and sweets
are not a part of daily eating. However each homemaker does her very
best to be creative and to pamper the family especially during
holidays and special occasions. Formerly, for holidays and weddings
a variety of cakes, cookies and sweet rolls was baked. Tables were
laden with beautifully decorated, delicious masterpieces. At wedding
receptions, all eyes would be on the ''karvojus'', a large wedding
tart which was decorated with a variety of dough birds and animals.
Earlier all cakes and dainties were baked by the homemaker herself
or a person, famous for her culinary prowess would be hired.

At the beginning of this century, many new foods came to Lithuania,
among them tortes and the famous baumkuchen from Germany, which now
is a must for every special occasion.

Today Lithuanian homemakers have many recipes for all occasions.
Most popular baked goods are made commercially from recipes based on
    traditional and newly arrived sweets.

However, the most appreciated baked goods are homemade and for this
reason each homemaker is intent on creating recipes which will awe
everyone and will please her family.

    Honey
    Cakes

Honey cakes are made with honey. They must be of a dark color, which
is obtained when honey is boiled or by adding burnt sugar to the
batter. Sour cream or sour milk are used to give sponginess to honey
cakes and baking soda is used as a leavening agent. The taste of
honey cakes depends on quantity and assortment of flavorings used.
The seasonings used most often and quantities are: 2 tablespoons
ground cinnamon, 2 tablespoons ground allspice, 4 teaspoons ground
cloves, 1 tablespoon powdered orange peel and 4 teaspoons ground
    ginger.

The special quality of honey cakes is that they taste better when
    aged.

You don't have Coca Cola green label yet?

I've not seen it displayed nor advertised locally - altho I gave seen a
couple of magazine adverts with the bilious green bullseye label shown prominently. My personal pick of the Co'Cola line is Zero - straight up,
no frou-frou flavourings. They also bottle/package Seagram's Ginger Ale.
The diet version is quite nice. I wish I could find Peach Fresca (another
    Coke product) locally.

    <brief hiatus>

Just checked the "Aisles Online" for HyVee and the Neimann's County
Market version of that. No green label Co'Cola out of 76 varieties
carried in-store at HyVee. County Market doesn't give me a variety
count - but it wasn't among the 3 full (24 selections) and one short
    screen of Coke products.

    Title: Coke-a-Cola Jerk Chicken
    Categories: Poultry, Sauces, Marinades
    Yield: 5 Servings

    10 Chicken thighs; bone in,
    - skin on

    MMMMM---------------------------BRINE--------------------------------
    2 ga (7.5l) warm water
    2 c (580g) kosher salt
    1 c (220g) dark brown sugar
2 tb Jerk seasoning; dry *
    Ice cubes

    MMMMM---------------------------SAUCE--------------------------------
    3 c (700ml) Coca-Cola
    1 1/2 c (355ml) ketchup
3 ts (1 tb) jerk seasoning
    6 oz (140ml) water

MAKE THE BRINE: Combine salt and sugar in water and stir
until dissolved. Once salt and sugar are dissolved add
the dry jerk seasoning and stir until mixed well. Add
ice cubes to make the water cold and stir. Place chicken
in a large enough container to hold all pieces and the
brine, allowing brine to completely cover the chicken.
Place in fridge and allow to sit at least 6 hrs. I
    prefer 12 hrs.

After brining rinse throughly in cold water and pat each
piece dry with paper towel. Season each piece of chicken
on both sides with the Dry Jerk Seasoning, place in a
ziplock bag and place back in the fridge for at least
    2 hrs. I prefer 6 hrs.

MAKE THE SAUCE: n a non-reactive pot combine everything
except water and whisk to mix. Bring to a boil and then
reduce heat to medium low and allow it to simmer. Allow
this to reduce to about half (20 to 30 minutes), add as
much water as needed to get the sauce to your desired
thickness. I personally like this to be a bit thin.
Allow to cool and brush chicken with sauce on both sides
the last 30 to 45 minutes of cook time. Use extra sauce
as a dipping sauce for the chicken.

This sauce can be placed in a clean jar and placed in
the fridge for up to 4 months.

COOK/SMOKE THE CHICKEN: I used my Brinkman Trailmaster
Limited Edition, which is an offset smoker because it
offered me more cooking space seeing I was cooking
chicken 2 different ways and I made burgers as well.
I cooked the chicken at 225°F/105°C for about 3 hrs.

COOKS NOTE: I used Kingsford Competition Briquets as
it's said you can use less, they burn hotter for a
longer period of time and I wanted to test them out.
They seem to work as advertised.

I don't do Burpsie Cola products - but last couple trips down the soda aisles I have seen "Made with REAL SUGAR" emblazoned on Pepsi, Sierra Mist, etc. 12 packs. I'm sure Co'cola won't let that slide.
Currently the only way I know to get real sugar in Coke is to buy the Mexican coke (I'm still hoarding my supply from last time I found it
on offer) or get the stuff labelled "Kosher for Passover" at that time
    of the year.

For a while now in my store, I've found a 4-pack from Coca-Cola made
with just cane sugar, no HFCS.. it comes in two flavors, California Raspberry and Georgia Peach... and course, is at a premium price.... I thought for a while that we might just be a test market again, but it's still on the shelves.... and it is being bought and replaced, as
sometimes there isn't any on the shelf, especially of the Raspberry
which I prefer, and then it comes back on the shelf.... :) Nothing in Classic or any other variety of Coke, though, just those two flavors... Oh, and these are in the classic green glass 12 oz bottles...

Just a quibble - the *real* classic coke bottles are the 7 oz. size that
was the original. Bv)= I scurried off to my Bing search engine and
learned that both the razzleberies and peaches are in a second go-round
status. The raspberry was first introduced on June 1, 2005 and had been discontinued by the end of the year. Couldn't easily find information
about the peach flavour other than it was originally done for the
    Japanese market.

Sounds to me like they've been tracking the flavour usage from the mix
it on site "Freestyle" dispensers in Burger Whop and other fats food
    joints.

I've not seen either locally - but, then, I've not been looking ... other
than for Peach Fresca - which is hen's teeth around here. I have noticed
some of the other variants - like ginger coke, cherry coke, vanilla coke, cherry-vanilla-decaf ...... I pass them by.

Dave said he couldn't find any in his home town so I did some
googling as to where it's available. It turns out that it's not all
that new after all, although I only came across it a few weeks ago (I

sort.) It was first formulated in South America and has been
