here, we thought the pushbuttons the most likely to go bad on us... but it's been the oven elements that we've had replace, instead... :)
Thinking about it, is there any reason why the
buttons would wear out any quicker than a rheostat?
Perhaps not.... I was just thinking that mechanical might be more likely
to have issues than the electrical....

They both wear out, I guess.

the mother, the only Canadian citizen of the lot,
was given the suitcase dump search, undoubtedly
on the theory that if we wanted to wreak havoc
among the Nova Scotians, we'd do it through her.
Hopefully I'll not hae any issues at the border either direction when I
go to Montreal to pick up the kid at the airport later this week...

I seldom have made the land crossing but have had no
problem, just a couple amusing events. And truth be told,
generally the airplane crossing has been uneventful -
getting back stateside has occasionally been annoying.

first. Her quest is either highly practical or
totally nuts, depending on what your criteria are.
Indeed.... I see both sides of that... ;)
    And cuts both ways.
    True. :)
It is certainly inconvenient for our travels, though
solving the problem can be a kind of amusing pastime.
Keeping your brain well exercised.... ;)

Perhaps, but it's sort of ploughing the same rows.

half (mine and part of hers), getting to waltz into
her club (or getting her into mine) before and
sometimes after a trip; and playing her phone games,
    particularly Wordament and WordConnect.
Another trip, you might have the same itinerary... there are some
benefits to that, too, after all... :)
Happens less frequently these days, for various
reasons. It's lucky we end up in the same city
at more or less the same time.
And manage to make connections, as well.... ;)

There is that. We have each other's flight numbers,
so we can sort of keep track (she's better at this
    as she has a smartphone).

... Hint for Mom: Kids don't really prefer hot dogs to duck a l'orange.
It would be nice if that were true, but it's really
    unlikely.
Some kids might prefer the hotdogs, but I've known plenty of kids that

I read - and would agree with - "boring kids might ...".

had been exposed to all sorts of more exotic fare and were quite happy
    to explore more.... :)

It's true that only rarely have I encountered
people whose tastes have substantially contracted
    in scope over the years.

... If you combine good flavors, food turns into an symphony of taste

    Sometimes perhaps not so much.

Spicy cumin chicken with strawberry coulis
    categories, poultry, main, wwtt
    servings: 4

    8 oz strawberries, rinsed, sliced
    2 Tb sliced green onions
    2 Tb chopped cilantro
    1 pn sugar
    4 skinless, boneless chicken breasts
    1/2 ts ground cumin
    1/2 ts ground coriander
    1/2 ts dried oregano
    1/2 ts salt
1/8 cayenne pepper (to 1/4 ts)
    1 Tb butter

    Combine strawberries, green onion, cilantro
and sugar in a blender or food processor.
Pulse briefly to make a slightly chunky
sauce. Set aside at room temperature until
    ready to serve.

Flatten chicken to 3/4", using palm of hand
or a meat mallet. Combine coriander, cumin,
oregano, salt and cayenne. Sprinkle half
spice mixture over one side of chicken.

Heat butter in a large skillet over medium-high
heat. Add chicken seasoned side down. Sprinkle
remaining seasoning evenly over chicken. Cook
4 to 5 min per side or until internal temp is
170F. Place chicken on serving plates and
spoon 1 to 2 Tb sauce over each breast.

Exactly... but apparently the pushbuttons less quickly than we'd
    feared... :)

Not that you would see that as a reason for getting yourself a
    smartphone.... ;)

Ok, sometimes a cacophany.... :) There are some symphonies that would
    qualify as that, too... ;)
