I was doing some reading and came across banned apps for Android. Thought only Apple did that for the IPad.

I'm pretty sure Google has some regulations for what they'll allow for apps in the Android 'Play Store'. I think it's a little looser though. It seems it's fairly easy to install Android apps without their app store too - I've seen web
sites that offer
an Android app as a direct download (bypassing their app store), which you can then install directly on the device.

Google removes apps from the play store all the time. Last year or two they have been getting tougher on malware and other nonsense.
