I wouldn't say that, but time does fly when you're having fun. I had a Tandy 000 once. Was a reliable machine.
i always stayed away from tandys because i thought they were a rip off compared to ibm compat computers.

They pioneered audio (without the need for a seperate audio card) and Tandy Graphics Mode (16-colors before EGA was even a thing). Deskmate, their GUI, was designed so that even grandma could use it. For the time, very pioneering.

Yes, the sound and graphics were ahead of other IBM clones. I had almost forgotten about that. :) The graphics was also better behaved than a lot of CGA boards of the day, not creating "snow" when you directly wrote to display RAM, unlike "real" CGA boards. In those days, directly writing to the display hardware was used to optimise speed.

    time, very pioneering.

I didn't use Deskmate a lot, because I was already an old hand DOS user who had graduated from CP/M. :)

They were expensive, but the quality was there, at least.

I didn't use Deskmate a lot, because I was already an old hand DOS user who had graduated from CP/M. :)

Deskmate had its heyday, and the Deskmate runtime even powered the original version of AOL (called PC-LINK). I think if Windows had not come along when it did, Deskmate would have continued on. Just Tandy got themselves into this corner they couldn't get out of -- and of course, today, all of Radio Shack is history :-(

Interesting, well over here, AOL didn't come along until the Windows era, but they never gained traction.

Yes, trends and technology moved on. And Radio Shack is gone, Tandy is gone, and in Australia, Tandy's last buyer - Dick Smith is also gone. Dick Smith were a great eleectronics and ham radio store in the 70s - 90s, then they decided to move into consumer electronics and drop the hobbyist lines, which alienated much of their customer base, and it was downhill from there. :(

For this reason I sometimes use my Commodore Amiga 2000... a wonder machine for that time, now my mobile phone is more powerful, but fun to see where we came from and where we are today.
