I havent been having any luck with this, so if someone knows of someone who provides a usenet feed I would appreciate if they could contact me. Will need 20 or so groups, none binary, and would be willing to make a donation to repay for the service...

Contact me - avon@bbs.nz and I'll see if I can help :)

You mean like news.bbs.nz?
You mean like news.bbs.nz?no, a non shitty one like easynews, giganews, or astraweb.
you can buy a block with astraweb and use it for non binaries for YEARS.

Ouch, news.bbs.nz is not shitty.

..and it does not cost either... oh well, each to their own.

Tried that, synchronet diddn't like it. I have someone helping me with it now :)
Marisa

i'm pretty sure you arent a major NSP and you shouldn't be sharing your usenet access.
Let us know how you make out Marissa, I have a Giganews account and I am considering adding Usenet to my Synchro board and then passing them through to my 2 other boards...

Please feel free to show me where you got the information that sharing the Usenet access I am offering to the original poster of this thread is not allowed.

i was just saying this person should use a real newsgroup provider, not one who sublets their newsgroup account with a big provider.
You clearly don't understand Usenet etiquette I'm not subletting anything, the server is peered with other providers and part of a global ecosystem.
post this in the ads section please.
Because who wants to read information that adds to a discussion when ignoring it could be so much easier huh?
i have used usenet for everything it offers.
you probably dont carry binaries because of bandwidth caps with your isp. oops there i go again!
You mean assuming you know more about my ISP plan than I do, yep you're quite right :)
i dont really care about your situation, but i'm probably right.
Sounds more like you're happy to make unsubstantiated claims then fail to back them up. So lets get some actual info on the table instead of hunches and falsehoods.
For the information of those following this thread news.bbs.nz is a NNTP server I set up and have been running successfully for a number of years. It's a text only server (no binaries) that is fully peered with sixteen
From what I have read in a subsequent post you have made here you last used Usenet for it's ability to aquire/share binaries content. That's not content

we have an ads section. you are trying to push your services a bit too much.
i'm probably right, though.
anyways, good for you. post in the ads section plese.

While I don't run my NNTP server as a commercial service like some
other Usenet service providers. I do offer a gated FTN<>Usenet service
to all BBS nodes via a gateway I run in fsxNet (Zone 21) and also have
a limited number of users that I have granted read/write access to post
to the server via the standard NNTP ports (119/563).

Didnt get any real errors, just couldnt get it to work with them the way I was doing with my previous server...
One day, I might look into taking a NNTP feed off you, but it's not a high priority. I know I could use your gateway too, but I may want to do NNTP directly (as much a technical exercise as anything). And text is what I'd want. I'm not really interested in binaries either.
There seems little point in trying to have a discussion with someone who adopts a point of view that they are probably right and opt to antagonize people who try to engage in discussion them. I'll drop the discussion with
check. I think I found out the cause as I seem to be getting news
messages now...
well being a technical person you can understand how you are being extremely fucking vague. :D
take a good look before doing anything. binaries is pretty much what newsgroups are for. otherwise it's spam and very little chatter.

Are you serious? I was using usenet back in the early 90's and we almost never posted large files... Didn't care for when that type of user started blaring out large files with multiple parts...

That may have been true back then, but usenet may very well be little used anymore. I myself haven't used usenet much in a long time.

I would like to set Synchronet BBS to use the text only usenet one day. I used it a long time ago. Would like to integrate it again. I remember

I had some newsgroups set up on my BBS in the past, but I think the
news server I was using went away. I thought it was pretty cool to be able to read and post on newsgroups from a BBS, but these days, I
wondered about the usefullness of that, since people could access a
news server directly. It would have been more useful back in the early-mid 90s when the internet was just starting to get popular but
when many people still didn't have internet access at home yet.
