Got that part, I see the paths, but nothing that points to user directories, it shows data directory, logs directory, exec directory and mods directory. Should the logs and data show ../data/
Got a weird one for ya.. Woke up this morning go to log on my account #1 has been deleted.. I tried to reactivate it via the main waiting for call screen and the path is wacked says cannot open file c:\sbbs\daa\user/user.dat I can see where the issue is but I can't seem to find a path setup. Any help?
I doubt if the path delimiter matters that much; this sounds like the control panel is formatting what it finds appropriately for your OS.
Your message indicated that the path included c:\sbbs\daa\ so I assumed you wanted to correct that to c:\sbbs\data\. Maybe that was just a typo in your message, in which case I have no idea what the actual problem is.

When you say "the path is wacked" is it because of the "daa" part or the mixed back and forward slashes? The slashes don't matter - that's not an issue.
Does the data/user/user.dat file exist on your hard disk?
digital man
Yes that was what I meant, the mixed back and forth slashes.. The "daa" was a type it was supposed to say data. Yes the file in addition to the 5 backups
the system creates are there... The system can not find the user.dat file though. That is where my issue lies...

Changed it to the forward slashes, still shows in editor on the Control Panel back slashes even after a reboot..

Did you try restarting sbbs? Or rebooting the system?
Yes, did both.. At this point, I am restoring from backups from 2 days ago, once I get in on my account I will open a second as an emergency in case my account gets deleted again, BUT I can reproduce it even after
restoring the backups. If you want me to send you anything or try anything, hopefully the restore will be done in a couple of hours.. Thanks for the help

If sbbs can't open the file, that doesn't mean your account was deleted. It just means it can't open the file. What is the size of your user.dat file? Can you "type" it or view it with notepad or another text editor/viewer?

I didn't use the correct terminology, my account has been de-activated, I created a second account by logging on new, and can view the user list and get into the user list via the control panel. I just can't save any changes to the user.dat file. It gives the error that it can't open the user.dat file. The size is approx. 4k I can view what is inside the file in notepad ++ but it is mainly binary looking characters with text thrown in. I don't think there is anything wrong with the user.dat file, the issue lies in Control panel not being able to save to it..

Re: Re: Weird One...
There's another usereditor (uedit.exe) - have you tried that?
Or if you close the Synchronet control panel and use the start menu option for the user editor, does that work?

I just tried the start menu option, that also gives the error that it can't open user.dat even though the info is filled in. It gives the error when you are exiting or saving the changes. I find the uedit.exe I will have to dig a bit deeper for that.. I will give that a shot..

Re: Re: Weird One...
just restore a backup and that should fix it.

That's exactly what I did.. I restored night before lasts backup and right now all is fine... :)

And that's happening even if the Synchronet control panel isn't running?
Are you running Synchronet as NT services?
Actually, looking back to yesterday, the control panel was running when I tried it. I just tried it again without it running and it worked perfectly.. I was able to change access levels and do everything..
And what version of SBBS are you running exactly?
I can't think of any reason why it would fix anything.

3.17 I updated back in July when I was having issues with getting binkit to work..
Re: Re: Weird One...
No, it's not really a problem. It's caused by some games that are set up by default; problem would go away if you updated them.
You can remove entries from ctrl/json-service.ini to make those go away, or just update your xtrn/ directory with what's on CVS.
You probably should update again. Sounds like you're having the user.dat file issue that was introduced in June and fixed in August.

Updated and it fixed the user edit issue.. Now I have something which is probably minor but in my services windows on Control Panel it says JSON (admin) User not found Bucko (That's me) Anything to be worried about??

I updated them when I installed the files from the scbbs_run.zip file and it still does it.. Is there another step involved?? I just replaced everything...

Stupid question for ya DM.. Would it be a good idea to update every month or weekly? I'm not opposed to using "beta or alpha" files, if it helps with the progression of the software.. What do you think?

Yes, if you're running what's in CVS right now, it's beta-level, so updates are a good ida.

The message is generated by a service script that's running in the background. You'd need to restart your services threaad (or your BBS) for the update to tak effect.
If the message is still showing up after that, then I don't know where it's coming from exactly. You can safely ignore it, or comment out entries in json-service.ini and restart until it goes away.
