any ideas on what to try with sbbs ??
anyway to disable all ports/listeners except telnet?
anybody try the "Windows Sub-system for Linux"
I tried installing Synchronet in both debian and ubuntu apps,
in debian, it failed miserably
I also tried installing installing mystic both 32 & 64 bit versions and gave error.
in ubuntu, I got allot further along, but ports below 1024 fail.
I did manage to login once and got all the way to creating the user, and it failed.
installing mystic however worked perfectly

sbbs was/is not creating any sort of log file to look through
I was running via console (sudo ./sbbs)
I did manage to get it working, I had to chmod 777 and chown all files & directorys within sbbs

It can. See http://wiki.synchro.net/monitor:syslog for details.

tried it daemonized and the only log file is in data/logs/103018.log
tried it ./sbbs syslog no change
am pretty sure windows it has to do with the windows sub-system
as there is *no* syslog, dmesg, its very minimal
but, it does sort of work :-)

I know but even "root" could not access my files until I opened the permissions.
WSL is "alpha" at best, even though Micro$haft has put the app on the store
there is no "syslog" in /var/log

You're running it in Windows?
https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-other_setting ation-of-syslog-file-in-windows-10-ubuntu-bash/ae40a2d2-005e-4130-b830-d90 6fb5
You're running it in Windows?
sort of - WSL is basicly a bastardize virtual image
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wsl/faq
Windows Subsystem for Linux (Windows 10)
right now you can run debian, ubuntu, kali,
opensuse and Suse Linux debian.
You install an app via the windows
store which installs a bare system, then
you build from there
Someone recently asked if Synchronet would build in that environment. I do remember if I tried myself, but it's cool to know it built for someone els Though, if you're already running Windows, I'd probably to choose the Wind build myself. Still, it's an interesting experiment.
