Yes, I asked about it the other day and Digital Man said there was an update N>that fixed a bug but introduced some other bugs. I imagine he'll fix it in N>time.
On another note, I did get echicken's website interface to install,
and I liked the idea of links to the doors. But, when I went to click on one of them, the display window just sat there. Should I remove the ANSI designation for the doors in SCFG??
It didn't take too long for the message areas to load, but with over 10,000 files, it took a few minutes for all the sections to load.
very basic. I did add the WS and WSS ports to my router...not sure if that'll fix the FTelnet issue or not.

Thankfully, I had made a backup of my CTRL and EXEC directories beforehand, although nothing would extract from those attempted
downloads.
I had the same problems about a day ago too. I haven't tried again yet. Is i CS>working yet?
ANSI is unlikely to be the cause of the problem.
Are you able to use fTelnet from the Home page of your website, or does it no E>work there either?
Is your BBS listening for rlogin connections?
This is probably inherent in the way file directories are loaded. There may E>ways to improve this, but I'll have to think about it.
They do need to be open so that the client's browser can connect to those E>services.

I have echicken's ecwebv4 set up on my BBS, but I haven't looked into adding N>links to the doors, so I'm not sure there.
From my personal page, yes. I didn't add an FTelnet link to your
setup.
Is your BBS listening for rlogin connections?Yes...but not SSH ones.
They do need to be open so that the client's browser can connect to
those services.
That has been done.
This is probably inherent in the way file directories are loaded. No rush...at least they loaded.
I'm not sure what you mean by that.
The default Home page in ecwebv4 contains an embedded fTelnet client which is preconfigured to connect to the host (your) BBS. The installer endeavours to configure/enable stuff on your BBS to make this work.
In other words, it's not something you need to add to your site, it should just be there on your Home page after installing the web UI. Is it there and does it connect to your BBS?
SSH is not used here, so we can set that aside.
RLOGIN is important because the protocol allows us to pass some data along to the server when initiating a connection. We can tell the BBS which user to log in and what game they want to play, allowing for a seamless connection to your terminal server that goes straight to the game.
By contrast, the fTelnet client on your home page uses TELNET and the user must type in their credentials after connecting, and they are not brought straight into any external program; they go through the normal login process and into a command shell.
Did it change / help anything?
If not, can you look in your ctrl/services.ini file and confirm that only the [WS] service is listening on port 1123. It's possible that you have something else ([WebSocketTelnet] or something) already configured to use that port. (Checking for this is something I need to add to the installer.)
The [WSS] service is the 'secure' instance of the same service. This one only matters if you serve your site over HTTPS.
It's only likely to affect people with huge amounts of files, but then sysops tend to hoard vast amounts of ancient software and other such things. I'll get to it at some point as I'm sure it will affect others.
Eventually there will be a version 5 that takes a somewhat more modern approach to many things, working with and around some of the bottlenecks in loading messages and files. Not anytime soon, but something I mean to tinker with now that this iteration is fairly stable.
Still no response with the links in the Games category from the website. Everything works fine with the external embedded FTelnet link, or with a telnet logon.
I checked that, and even with SCFG, and that's the only thing using that port.
I enabled both, but I don't know if the site is served over HTTPS.
The 'external embedded fTelnet link' is likely using its own WebSocket proxy E>service and your local one is not involved. The role of the WebSocket servic E>is described on this page:
https://github.com/echicken/synchronet-web-v4/wiki/ftelnet
Your WebSocket service is not working properly. I don't know why. I just E>tried it, and it disconnects me immediatley after connecting. There may be E>some useful information in your Services log.
Has your BBS been restarted since you ran the web UI installer?
In your case HTTPS is not in play. You can dispense with the [WSS] section i E>services.ini. It's only needed for secure WebSocket clients.
Also of note, wx1der.dyndns.org does not resolve. You may want to check on E>your dyndns client or update your origin line to reference tbolt.synchro.net E>which does work.
Charles,
I decided to just wait until I get word that they are, before trying again.

I just wonder how many are still using ASCII?? RIP is basically gone,
as TeleGraphix, who pioneered that, went out of business over 25 years

Just wondering what was telegraphic? I did a search on the internet and I am getting a lot of search results that match that.

From what I understand, there are issues with ftp.synchro.net and
trying to download stuff. Digital Man is aware of it, but I'm not sure
when he can get it fixed. So for now, I'm not applying any further
updates.
Actually, the problem was with vert.synchro.net, not ftp.synchro.net (which DM>remained fine) - and those problems have been fixed.

If I remember right, it was TeleGraphix -- they pionnered RIP
Graphics for BBS's. It likely is long gone now, as it has been nearly 30 >years since they went out of business.

That's what I thought. One former area Sysop quipped that "RIP is what
you do to a f@r+". <G>
I have the DeadPaint program to edit or create RIP screens...and I
used a menu template to do such when I did menus when I ran GT Power software.
Deadpaint! I can't believe I forgot about that program! I liked it so much CS>registered it, I wasn't, and never was a good artist, but Deadpaint made it CS>alot easier. I'm gonna see if I can find a copy someplace
Charles,
I've got the shareware copy over here...but I think the registered
copies were hard coded...and you can't just "enter a key" to register
it.
I downloaded Deadpaint a few months ago, I didn't even bother to try to inst CS>it. I think I am. I wonder if it's a registered copy or not
