• Export/import external doors?

From Marisag@1:229/2 to All on Friday, January 18, 2019 09:20:56
    From: marisag@AMIGAC.remove-hkl-this

When i set up a bbs for a client i have to set up 50-100 doors by hand. Is there a way to export a list of door info and import it on the new system? Not talking about the door files themselves, just the door configuration & list...

    Would be great to have...

None that I'm aware of, but it could be created.

Alternately, you could probably just copy xtrn.cnf to the new system, though that might bring over more stuff than you want.

Are you looking to transfer just selected programs, entire groups, or the entire External Programs configuration?

deuce made some export program but i'm not sure what the name is and i'm not sure if it would work with this current version. atleast i think deuce made it. i have it but have no idea what the filename is.

Synchronet (SCFG) already supports several import formats for message and file areas. It does not support importing external program configurations. A corresponding "importcfg.js" should probably be created which could import more cfg-type's (not just message and file areas) and supporting more variants/formats of files.

i think what people are looking for is a way to export and import doorgame configurations. with file areas and msg areas we could always just use the backup files. the internal export for the msg areas are already good enough for people that run msg nets to distribute.

This! I was going to ask the same question since I'm in the process of building a new 3.17b board, but wanted to export the current configs and import them. I know that you can do that with some things already such as message forums, but not door game configs.

I think an 'importcfg.js' (if one were to be created) could do just that, using the load/cnflib.js (since *changing* the configuration settings is not built-in to the Sync-JS object model).

exportcfg.js started from fileareas.js which was created because someone asked for an exported file area list format that was not already supported in SCFG and it was a rather trivial thing to do in JS. Making it flexible (in format, order, contents) and changing it to a more generic 'configuration' exporter was non-trivial, buf fun.
