Has anyone tried to see if it was possible to run Synchronet within
ReactOS? I know that ReactOS isn't ready for major uses (when will
they ever?) and has been lkke that for years. I'm just curious to
see if it is even remotely possible with where ReactOS now.
I'm kind of impressed that they're still at it. I remember messing around with that like ... I want to say 15 years ago, but maybe it was only 10.
I know it's been brought up before, but I don't remember if anyone actually tried running Sync on it or how it went. Worth giving it a shot, even if I'm not sure if there's any good reason to do it. :D

I started following ReactOS about 10-12 years ago, and I'm both surprised and not surprised at how slow its development has been. I heard ReactOS has been around since the mid 90s (and originally started as a project to replicate Windows 95). In that sense, I'm surprised it's still considered 'beta' and they haven't released a totally stable version yet. Linux is also open-source and matured much faster than ReactOS, but I can see how ReactOS would be more of a challenage. On the other hand, as a totally volunteer project, I suppose you couldn't really count on it making fast progress.
Another open-source OS I've been curious about is Haiku OS, which aims to reproduce BeOS, which is no longer developed.

I seem to remember someone on Dove-Net saying they installed ReactOS to see how well Synchronet would run in it. From what he said, I don't think it ran well enough to make me want to run my BBS in ReactOS.

Just for SAG I installed ReactOS in Virtualbox 5.2 and got sbbs317b working without any problems, though I did not bother setting it up on vert, but it ran 'ok' and also got LORD4.06 installed and working ....

I've seen screenshots on their web site of it running more than that. I think it can run some web browsers and maybe even a few games. But still, I don't think it's in a good enough state to use on a daily basis either.
