Yeah, cycles per second/Hz doesn't really make sense for a data transfer rate.. I was familiar with characters per second.
Think anyone involved with BBSing back then was familiar with characters per TL>second. :)

I remember those too. 300 was painfully slow.

I never used an acoustic coupler. Closest I ever came was a dumb modem.
... Change is good; especially when it relates to underwear.

That was before smart modems, eh?? :P

But, in a nudist colony, or on a nude beach, you don't worry about
that. Besides, that's how you can tell who the blind man is at a nudist wedding -- it's not hard. <G>

I think I recall 45.45 baud was 60WPM BAUDOT (not ASCII).
Am I close? ? ??? ??? ? ?

Yep. Dumb modems were the ones with the speed and answer/originate switch. V>You'd set the modem to "originate" to dial a BBS, then call the BBS manually V>the attached phone. When the BBS answers, flick the other switch from "phone V>to "data".

Truth though is that happens a lot less often than you'd think in a nudist V>setting, even though it's the subject of the #1 FAQ by men. :)

I remember using an acoustic coupler for a reason. It was easier to connect my in-ear headphone inside while my adlib and later
soundblaster could be used for blueboxing :) man those were the days...
Daryl Stout wrote to VK3JED <=-
That's how the first modem I had was set up. A toggle switch to
answer or originate. You dialed the phone number manually. When the
other line picked up, you clicked the modem switch to originate, then
hung up the phone.
With the terminal program and a Hayes or US Robotics modem, it dials
the number, connects, then disconnects, with the program and modem commands.
From what I understand, it's like the medical professionals. You get used to seeing nudity to where it doesn't phase you anymore. Yet, I
know some folks who don't want to go to the doctor, as they don't want them to see them naked. Like it's something they haven't seen??
Hello??!!
Yes, non sexual nudity doesn't get a raise, so to speak. :) And yes, I don't V>understand that level of fear of being seen nude. It's gotta be unhealthy.

Besides, the OB/GYN doctor sees you at birth, and the mortician sees
you after you're deal. I've yet to know a baby come out in a tux or a
dress. And, you don't even want to think of what's coming in about 8

I had an issue with drug abuse abuout 10 years ago, I went to a Drug
Court for treatment (MOST WORK) but once you learn how to pull you
pants, drawers all the way down to your ankles and urinate on demand
it's something you HAVE to learn to get used to. and if you are serious about your recovery, it works, I've been ckean for more than 10 years
Yeah, I can imagine they'd be putting you under the microscope, so to speak, to make sure you're staying clean while in rehab.

Apparently so, yeah didn't know that was done at 8 days. I don't remember!

yeah, i don't know where that eight days came from... i'm aware of
several who were done within the first three or four days... when my oldest was born, we were out of the hospital and home in four days...

The reason for that is that the blood clotting mechanism skyrockets
on the 8th day after birth...so, there's not a ton of bleeding when
it's done.

When my younger sister was born 40 years ago, babies were kept in hospital for 6-7 days, but yes, it does seem to be 3-4 days these days.

Oh, OK. And these days, babies aren't kept in hospital that long.

were also in a military hospital? i dunno...
It's like "drive through childbirth" or "drive through surgery". The main reason is that the insurance companies don't want to pay a ton of money for an extended hospital stay. Yet, they would love to have you as a policyholder, and paying them the premiums.
Better not go down the rabbit hole of healthcare. :D
