I read that if you dual boot Linux with Windows that the GRUB can be erased. Is this true? How will this affect Synchronet BBS as well?

Of course it can be erased.. The easiest way I know would be to run the Windows system repair after booting from the Windows install media - and then the PC would boot directly into Windows again.

It should not have any effect on Synchronet, unless for instance you have Synchronet installed in the Linux partition and no longer can boot into Linux, or if the system can't boot at all.. though technically that won't harm your Synchronet files.

If Grub gets erased, you should be able to re-install Grub and get it back to where it was before.

Where are you comming up with all this nonsense ?
have you ever ran linux and windows as a dual boot system?
I have and no problems with grub whatsoever, you can edit grub and if you don't know wtf you're doing you could mess it up probably.
I prefer to run linux on a VPS, in a VM or by itself like on my Raspberry PI's and no it would'nt effect sychronet.

Although it seems like a silly question, I've had windows installs blow away my
linux boot partition before... I usually install them on separate drives without the other connected at install... then use the bios boot selector on the rare occasion I need
    to get into windows.

I've always thought the general advice was to install Windows first and install
Linux second. The Linux install will generally install Grub and add menu items
for Windows and Linux. I suppose Windows Update could potentially remove Grub,
    particularly
with Windows 10 being stubborn about installing updates..?

I really liked the boot loader that my hackintosh setup used tbh, in any case, I'd just assume use the BIOS boot selector if I don' want to use the default (Linux) via F12 at startup... it works well enough.

Magicka is the first BBS written for Linux only.

Not true at all. There have been many *nix only bbs software packages written over the years.

Waffle for starters, that's been around for _many_ years.

yep... since at least 1989 for the DOS version... the *nix one was out before then...

    Ok name one then.

Waffle BBS... it was originally a set of scripts for *nix command line interface that provided menus to access the available options for the users... later they came out with a DOS executable that provided the same interface and access to the email, news,
and files... all email and news transfers were done between systems via UUCICO... email addressing used bangpaths...

You have some serious issues man picking on a sick man all the time.

I'm not sure what that has to do with anything? I have an autoimmune disorder that has plagued me for over a decade including multiple surgery. I guess I
    am also a sick man.

I am just correcting the misinformation that you are posting. A bit of
homework before you assert a fact would alleviate all of this.

Not sure about Synchronet, but the author of MagickaBBS has run it off and on under Haiku.

Magicka is the first BBS written for Linux only.

Maybe originally, but he has also had it running under Haiku (not linux)
    and BSD (not linux).

yup! i do freely admit that my original statement was made based on 20+ year old memory of long past discussions about waffle's history, too... back then, nothing was really said about pre-waffle days and a lot pointed to the *nix stuff being scripts but
those could easily have been helpers called by the system's functions...

i remember when david douthitt<sp?> was creating and testing his erin and amanda waffle<->ftn packages... my system was (one of?) the main test site(s) ;) those packages were named after his daughters, IIRC...

It's still kind of a BS point to make... From the website, looks like
it's meant to run on modern nix systems not just Linux and it's most
likely not the first, and won't be the last. MBSE is significantly older.
