EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
- We look at data relating to "sky quakes" -- loud noises from the sky
that might either sound like booms or even trumpets.
- Running through a list of suspect datasets we find which are
predicted by sky quake events -- i.e. find those phenomena that may
be "caused" by the sky noises.
- We find some "effects" that are predicted by conventional
theories. E.g. sound sky quakes are believed to be related to
earthquakes, and we find quakes along a key longitude are the major
events predicted by the appearance of sky noises some months earlier
somewhere in the world. We also find another suspected cause --
meteors, in particularly seasonal meteor showers -- also tend to
follow from sky quakes with a certain lag.
- But we also find UFO activity, in this case reports from Australia
(amazingly laying in the middle of the key quake latitude
determined, above) are almost as strongly linked as earth quakes.
- We also note UFO sightings of certain types and certain regions in
the US are more strongly linked than either seasonal meteors or
sporadic fireball sightings.
- A simple theory is suggested that knits these unconventional data
together.
Unusual loud noises coming from the sky are starting to become another
thing. There are several distinct types of "sky quakes" reported and
they have a variety of theories to explain them. And given the
folkloric tradition that anything weird is likely to be related to
most other weird things, we have to look at how these noise events
relate to UFO's and other things that UFO's have strong links with.
The data for the sky quakes comes from <
https://strangesounds.org/>
that's scanned media articles for the past ~20y. Events are split into
"loud noises" and for select years Bible-style "sky trumpeting" that
itself is supposed to be increasing in frequency.
Unlike most of our other investigations where the *causes* of some
UFO-related phenomenon was sought via a computer hunt, this time we'll
try to explain the "sky quake" phenomenon via what things it seems to
predict -- it's "effects".
As usual a robust AI s/w with access to statistical tools and 1000s of
data series is used to determine which data series are strongly
predicted by the rises and falls in sky quakes.
The monthly data from the above website boils down to this:
yy.mm # yy.mm # yy.mm # yy.mm # yy.mm # yy.mm #
2015.04 2 2015.12 1 2015.21 1 2015.38 4 2015.46 1 2015.62 1

After a few mins of think time the s/w spits out the list of data
series it knows that "look like" the above data to a high degree of
statistical certainty:

The table lists only the top 20 effects by R2 ("explanation power").
The top line shows that sky noises are mostly linked with large quakes
=mag 4) along longitude 130-140E running through E Antarctica,
Australia, the Philippines, S Japan, Korea, China and E Siberia.. We
might interpret this to be at least some sky quakes are predictors or predecessors of large jolts in this region. The lag column shows the
best R2 is 3 m after the sky quake event. About 1/2 of large quakes in
the region are preceded by a loud noise from the sky somewhere else in
the world (generally the US in the above database).
And in No 2 spot are Australian UFO sightings with a lag of 12m. Given
the first item indicates a longitude that passes through the middle of
the continent this is not such a big surprise. It seems sky quakes
have an affinity for that part of the world, no matter where they're heard.
More interestingly, other items in the table with large R2 include the positions of Pluto and Venus. The code "pluto-v" is the angular
position of Pluto in its orbit, while "venus-mag" is the visual
magnitude of Venus. Somehow the distribution of sky quakes over the
dataset 2015-2020 "looks like" the changes in position of Pluto and
Venus (the magnitude of Venus relates to its distance from Earth and
its distance from the sun -- i.e. it's a number that summarises the
relative positions of Venus and the Earth).
To round out the top 20 are various types of UFO sightings in the
NUFORC dataset -- mostly sightings from the US. Again, somehow these
loud noises from the sky herald changes in the sightings of US UFO's
several months down the track.
An experimental part of the s/w tries to group datasets into "themes"
to try to extract interesting and understandable relationships from
what is generally a long list of variables that "look like" a given
target dataset.
In this case the list of 1000s of suspects boils down to a key list:
Effect Lag Filt Trans R2
qseg130 3 1.5 log 0.49963907
ausufo 12 1.5 log 0.42613112

Current conventional theories about sky quakes link them with
earthquakes and meteors. Certainly a good chunk of the data on the
phenomenon seems to link with major quakes around long 130E. The
"meteors" dataset above relates to seasonal meteor showers;
"fireballs" relates to (supposedly) bright meteors seen by the
public. These seem to be linked with sky quakes of one type or another
that predict between 15% and 20% of subsequent (seasonal) meteors or
fireballs. Sun-based events or cosmic rays were another hypothesised
factor but in our table these are further down at only 4%. Even US
unidentified missing persons (usu these are dead bodies without ID;
but does include people that somehow have lost all memory of who they
are) has a slightly stronger link. How a loud noise in the sky could
be linked with a change in the number of unidentified missing persons
we can only speculate on.
But what the mundane theories didn't seem to cover was a link with
UFO's which appears to be comparable in strength with its link with earthquakes. And another surprisingly strong link with the position of
Pluto (and Venus) that is only slightly weaker than with major quakes.
The list of sky quakes seems to predict 40% of the movement of Pluto
about 6m later, about 1/3 of UFO sightings around Virginia, and about
1/5 of UFO sightings classified as "Crosses", both with a lag of about 4m.
A simple theory that links most of these data together suggests sky
quakes are a mix of "natural" and, perhaps, "artificial" warnings that
large quakes are soon to occur in a key longitude passing through the
E Antarctic, Australia, SE Asia and China. If/when these quakes
happen UFO activity increases "for some reason" and some other
UFO-related phenomena also see an up-tick or change.
