The Qur'an says Jesus is a historical figure so maybe the simpleton chose to contradict the central tenet of his own belief.

This mantle here is not a literal mantle as some Arabian commentators tried to make you believe so you could go on pilgrimage to Mecca. The mantle here is used in its metaphorical sense, meaning that an Arabian orphan(call him Y) is hiding Muhammad,
which is a euphemism for Messiah/Christ, so as to outwit the Meccan pagans resistance to the Gospel....
