• THE LIMEHOUSE GOLEM

From Jared@1:229/2 to All on Sunday, August 26, 2018 20:18:20
    From: bijgh@hotmail.com

Bill Nighy investigates period serial slasher, the Limehouse Golem, so called because he, er, why is he called that, and the the suspected poisoning of a failed playwright by his actress wife. Suspects are ripped from the pages of history (spoiler: Karl Marx didn't do it) and the ever popular Ratcliffe Highway
    murders are heavily referenced.

Nowhere near as clever as it thinks it is (twist so obvious my normally-bemused missus called it after ten minutes) but interesting enough examination of Victorian music halls and Douglas Booth steals the show as real-life star
    Dan Leno.

Got bafflingly good reviews. Zounds like the book might be worth a read.

Good, that's another one I can take off the list. I can feel the pressure lifting.

Why don't you give us your list and we (ie. me) will tell you which ones
    to cross off.

BTW, ATAUD BLANCO is still on Netflix if you haven't seen it yet.

I could do with getting rid of some of these:

    Ugly
    The Skin of the Wolf
    Devil's Bride
    February
    Maus
    Autopsy of Jane Doe
    Ladronas de almas
    Hypersomnia
    Sendero
I don't Feel at Home in This World Anymore
    Holidays
    Nocturama

    February

The only one on the list that I have a review for (Since I stopped
    reviewing films in 2016):

"Half-term at a Catholic girl's school and the pupils are being collected
by their parents - except Kat and Rose, whose parents haven't turned up
yet. As Rose is older, she is instructed to take care of Kat, but becomes disturbed by her odd behaviour. This Canadian film is well made from a technical standpoint, but that's about it. The sound design is especially notable, giving a feeling of unease throughout the film, even when
nothing particularly sinister is occurring. At first the plot is
intriguing, but around halfway through, a revelation gives the rest of
the story away and from then on you're just waiting for the inevitable conclusion."

I could do with getting rid of some of these:

Since I don't have reviews for these, I'm going off of memory.

    Devil's Bride

Worth seeing, but more of a drama than a horror film.

    Maus

    Absolutely awful.

    Autopsy of Jane Doe

    OK from what I recall.

    Ladronas de almas

    I liked it.

    Hypersomnia

Better than I expected, but not outstanding.

    Sendero

    Brutal, but generic.

I don't Feel at Home in This World Anymore

Not as good as I hoped, but still pretty decent.

I could do with getting rid of some of these:

    Holidays

I thought I saw this more recently, but it was actually 2016, so I have a review of it.

"An anthology of horror tales - each by a different director and each
about a different annual holiday/celebration. Starting with Valentine's
Day and ending with New Year's Eve. Considering the names involved, I
expected more. Some of them start really well (the best example being the blasphemously disturbing, "Easter"), but then end abruptly just as things
seem to be getting going. Overall, very disappointing."

I really enjoyed watching AUTOPSY. The ending is a bit of a let down
just because it is a bit too obvious but getting there is a fun ride.
Brian Cox and Emile Hirsch put in good performances as the father and
son mortician team looking into the mysterious death of a woman.

It was alright. Decent performances from Nighy, Cooke, Booth and the bad
guy from ASHES TO ASHES and it is a good looking period film but I never
felt caught up in the film.

The twist was so obvious that I dismissed it.

Yeah, the cast was good. Also Eddie Marsan.

The twist was so obvious that I dismissed it.

And the ending post-twist was ridiculous.
