Can't imagine how I stumbled on this book, but it sounds amusing...
It was published in 1994 and reprinted in 2015. (There are at least two covers. Interestingly, the boy on the first(?) cover, looking out the window, looks unhappy and left out, while the boy on the second cover, also staring out, looks more shocked - or
scared!)
And, apparently, the author even discusses Nov. 1, All Saints' Day.
One Amazon listing has 53 reviews; another has 164 reviews. Naturally, they were reviewed mainly by people who agree with the author already, but the handful of very negative reviewers appear to be quite well-informed.
One of the shorter reviews: "We don't celebrate secular Halloween, but this book isn't how I'm going to help my children understand that. Don't waste your money."
And:
"Too bad Ms. Winwood has drunk the over-sweet KoolAid of evangelicalism and has no taste for the fine complex wine of Christianity."
And:
"Some people are pagans. This is OK. In fact, so many "Christian" traditions were stolen from the pagans! I hope that there is also a "Mommy, Why Don't We Have a Christmas Tree" and "Mommy, Why Do We Celebrate Christmas in December When Jesus' Birthday
Was In May?" and also a "Mommy, Why Don't I Get Presents at Christmas" are also in rotation as all of those things have to do with Christianity's appropriation of pagan traditions. Don't even get me started about Easter.
"Celtic Samhain (Halloween) is an idea of keeping out evil spirits and having a chance to hang out with the dead. Simple. Dia de Muertos is in Mexico- a Catholic country."
Of course, there's some overlap at Goodreads - but not completely.
