ndie pop duo Twenty One Pilots recently appeared on a podcast where they talked about their new album coming later this year. An upcoming single is called Fire Drill. The song—if you can call it that—was actually Josh’s recording from some camp he
went to in a university as a teenager. He was playing and showing off some drum machine in the common room when the fire alarm (Wheelock MT horn in continuous) went off. The sound of a person blowing a whistle continuously at an inhumanely high volume
made Josh excited. He blurted out “is, is, the” right before he and his friends were leaving the building. Just like the YouTuber known as N. Lind!
Josh revealed that he left the tape recorder behind. The alarm was ringing for five minutes, and Josh didn’t stop the recording until he returned to the building after the alarm was silenced. You can hear him tell his friends “I got it all on tape!”
In the podcast, Josh joked “whoever was blowing the whistle as the fire alarm has great lungs!” When asked if they were going to edit that sound clip for the album, he said “nah, we’ll just leave it as is, maybe make the fire alarm less loud. I
want to make it sound, ummm, authentic, I guess….” Then again, if the sound of the fire alarm is too authentic, it would cause undue panic when listeners think there is a real fire.

Word has it that this tune will rise very fast and stay at the top of the Alternative billboard charts for 16 weeks on it’s release as a single. Some EDM producer allegedly got the OK from Twenty One Pilots to sample Josh’s “is is the” in a remix
    of Fire Drill

    BUMP!

An update on Twenty One Pilots: It turns out Fire Drill won’t be a single after all, nor will it be on the new album. It got some bad publicity after it was leaked online. Some hipster blog praised the single while everyone else hated it. One reviewer
wrote “who the hell wants to listen to a shrill alarm for five minutes straight? This is a new low for this indie-pop duo from Columbus!”

The fire alarm manufacturer that created the “blowing whistle” fire alarm and Youtuber Nathaniel Lind both sent Twenty One Pilots cease and desist letters. There are concerns that listeners will think it’s an actual fire. Lind accused the band of
plagiarizing one of his videos. The drum machine and Josh blurting out “is, is, the” were nearly identical to what was heard in Nathaniel’s video. It was reported that the band mailed Lind some vintage smoke detectors as a “peace offering”.
Unfortunately, those smoke detectors are not functioning, as seen in Nathaniel’s recent video where he tested the alarms and yelled “They don’t fucking work!”

What does this mean for Twenty One Pilots? Absolutely nothing. This incident will be swept under the rug while their current single will be number 1 on the Billboard alternative charts for at least 11 more weeks. The band and record label are happy with
how the current single is doing (especially since they allegedly gave Clear Channel and CBS Radio millions to overplay that song).
At least we won’t hear Fire Drill 32 times a day on the “alternative” radio stations
